Anyone been to Majorca who can recommend some lovely family resorts? We want a cheap (if that exists anymore) holiday. We have a 3.5 year old and 19 month old. Thinking of going end of Sept. begin Oct.

thanks ladies xx

oops apologies for my spelling. yes sa coma .

wolfgirl don't know about tesco, but if you shop at sainsburys and get a nectar card, thompson are afilliated with them also, so you can use nectar points towards thompson holidays.

Wolfgirl · 25/07/2007 14:42

yes, I have a nectar card, but no where near the amount of points you would need for a holiday. but still....wouldnt harm to take a look. Have more tesco vouchers than nectar points.

Ooooh, would love a week away, by the sea, in hot sun, cold drinks, beers, water sports...

I have nectar points but not sure how many suppose you would need thousands anyway..

heifer · 25/07/2007 14:55

I have been to Porta Pollenca and can thoroughly recommend it..

about an hours drive from Palma..

cardy · 25/07/2007 15:05

Half board is proably a cheeper option, then you can buy bread, cheese, fruit etc. for lunch.

If I remember correctly a typical meal was:

13 euros - main meal (fish or steak and veg)x 2

Bottle of wine - 10 euros

Childrens meal - 5 Euros

fresh juice 2.5 eruo x 2 (or even 4)

Dessert (sometimes) 5 euros x 2

Of course pasta/pizza dishes are more like 8 euros and there are always cheaper cafe/tapas places.

sorry to hijack wolfgirl but can anyone recommend a nice apartments in puerto pollensa as we were thinking of that for next year

SpamFritter · 25/07/2007 15:31

Mosschops - we stayed here a couple of years ago.

We booked direct with them and had a car although you could walk into town. Puerto Pollensa is lovely.

How old are your children? When we went the apartments mainly catered for direct bookers so there aren't kids clubs/entertainment. Supermarket just up the road though. I'd go again.

Website

mosschops30 · 25/07/2007 15:37

It says a twenty minute walk into resort is this right?
I have seen another nice one but again it says you need to get a taxi into resort which we dont want to do every night. Dont want to be right in town but max of 5 or 10 minutes walk

SpamFritter · 25/07/2007 15:53

I think 20 minutes is an over estimation. There are two routes into town from the apartments - along the main road which is pretty busy - or down to the sea and along the prom. Down to the sea is maybe 10 minutes and then you can take your time and stroll along IYSWIM.

If you have a look at the 'situation' link on the website you can see the main road route. We used to go off to the right towards the sea.

There aren't many big hotels in Puerto Pollensa. The Thomson one used to be the Pollensa Park but I'm not sure they go there anymore. This is a good site to look at.

littlemissbossy · 25/07/2007 15:56

Wolfgirl, try hotelsviva.com, you can book direct and book your own flights to save money - they have various hotels around the island and you can book self catering, half board or all inclusive to suit your budget. HTH

mosschops30 · 25/07/2007 16:02

agree with littlemissbossy viva hotels are fab thats where we stay in menorca

littlemissbossy · 25/07/2007 16:03

ooo Mosschops - are they realllly good?? we're going next week [excited]

golds · 25/07/2007 16:07

we have just been to Majorca, stayed at the hotel Mac Marte in Alcudia, Alcudia beach lovely.

There are 3 hotels in the same complex the Mac Marte, Jupiter and Saturno, I thought it was a excellent holiday, 24 hour food, all inclusive, when the resturants were shut, here were fridges stocked up with sandwiches.

Excellent value for money, loads of entertainment, 6 pools, childrens play area, a train and lake. I recommend it. HTH

We went to Cala d'or when DS was 21 months and thoroughly enjoyed it, this was over six years ago so it may have changed. However we to mainland Spain now (we have our own apartment there which we rent out, there is an ad in the 'Classified' seciton of 'Talk' ) and the food prices are similar however you can definitely eat cheaper if you are happy not to have a three course meal every night, lots of places to get pasta or pizza, even a couple of plates of tapas and some chips to share or eat in the apartment a couple of nights.

Either take home made sarnies to the beach or look out for Panaderias (little bakery shops) as they often do filled rolls or little pizzas made from baguettes cheaper than you could make them yourself.

MrsSpoon · 25/07/2007 16:23

Sorry that post doesn't read very well but you know what I mean.

cardy · 25/07/2007 16:35

In terms of accommodation it depends what you want. We've had villa's in Pollensa for a few years through James Villas which were fantastic. But this year as dds are older (3 and 6) we wanted something with more for them to do and other children around so we stayed at the Playa Mar in Puerto Pollensa. It was perfect (a little too much going on for me) but dds loved it! We managed a good mix of children's activities for dds and walks into PP for dinner and round the old town of Pollensa to keep Dh and I happy.

nomdeplume · 25/07/2007 16:37

We went to Puerto D'Andratx 2 years ago. Was very nice, ££££ though but worth it to avoid the hoardes of ruddy faced 'Brits abroad'

princessmel · 25/07/2007 16:59

Please can you do you a link to accomodation Mrs spoon???

cutekids · 25/07/2007 17:11

My kids love Magalluf. The beach is lovely and the night-life great. (Well, obviously the main-strip would be a little scary but there are loads of family-friendly bars.)
We stay at the Fiesta Tropico and eat usually at Tom Browns which is fairly reasonable and always has deals on for families or free drinks with meals etc.
Mind you, there are others who might say it's not for kids at all so don't take my word for it. (I'd live there if I could and so would my kids who are all under 10!)

Theresa · 25/07/2007 18:52

We had our first 'abroad' hol in may with children 5 & 8, went to Alcudia and stayed at Viva Tropic. booked it all ourself (easy jet & direct with hotel) after spending many nights studying tripadvisor & holiday truths websites. The hotel was amazing, children refused to leave as the entertainment and staff were so wonderful! Hotel cost about £340 for 8 nights in a really nice room

alibo · 25/07/2007 19:28

we took ds on his first holiday abroad to cala d'or, loved it. there are loads of private villas to hire in cala d'or, lots of which are near to the marina. have visited puerto pollensa for the day, and that seemed like a nice resort also. (alcudia to me didn't seem to have any "character" like these other two resorts, but we only really passed through it).

princessmel · 25/07/2007 19:29

We used Solmar Villas and James Villas.

BillWeasleyBeast · 25/07/2007 19:35

Puerta Pollensa

MrsSpoon · 25/07/2007 20:11

princessmel, not sure if you mean the accommodation we stayed in whilst in Majorca or our apartment that we have advertised on MN?

However the accommodation we had in Majorca was pants so I wouldn't recommend it (and also being over 6 years ago I can't actually remember what the apartments were called, it was a budget deal through Thomson IIRC), although Cala d'or was nice though and I'm sure a stay in half decent accommodation would be lovely.

If you mean our apartment it is here.
