Tunisia Advice

Contemplating a family holiday to Tunisia, but not 100% sure.

Does anyone have any recommendations whether it's a good fit for a family of 4? Is there enough to keep a little and a preteen engaged?
Also any suggestions regarding which part to go too?

Thanks in advance!

Check out the foreign travel warnings first. I absolutely would not feel at all safe in Tunisia. Is there a reason you want to go there other than sun etc that you can get in a safer country?

No way would I consider Tunisia for a family holiday, do some research as PP said.

Just come back. Sentido Phenicio in Hammamet was great for kids of all ages. We went all inclusive. Great food, great service, great entertainment.

Advice is not to go near Libyan border, which Hammamet is not.

Is the preteen female?
If so only go if you have no intention of leaving your hotel at all
In fact I wouldn’t go even then

We've been a couple of years ago to a lovely hotel and it was great. The hotel was on the beach so had great pools and the beach was gorgeous. We loved it and would def go back. We didn't look for entertainment for our kids as they are just happy with the pool, slides and the beach. We didn't leave the resort but that was because I was pregnant and our youngest was a toddler and I was just worried about getting ill as we were only there for a week.

Yes there has been trouble there, but there is also bombs and terrorists in London, Paris and New York and we've also been there.

Tunisia is a lovely country but not without its problems , I will go back sometime but feel with the terrorist threat ( was there during the bombing in Tunis ) that right now it's lower on my list than other places I could visit
Nowhere is free from problems but some places are less safe than others and it's pointless to be looking over your shoulder all the time you are supposed to be enjoying your hard earned break

The Tui Magic Life Africana is a great hotel with loads to do and an excellent kids club/animation team.

I agree, Tunisia is lovely for a vacation. DH and I, we went there twice (Hammamet Chich Khan hotel, Monastir Skanes Neptunia Beach hotel). But IMO, it's only good for a quiet rest in a hotel. Amazing white sand beaches, amazing sea, amazing sun. Nice food (not amazing Smile), stuff is mostly nice too. Felt pretty safe there. We went without kids so didn't consider this kinda entertainment. I saw that animation teams were not involved enough so children mostly spent time with their parents.

Went to Hammamet last year on a last minute cheapy and was very apprehensive for all of the reasons above. Stayed in Hotel Emira which is a basic 2* but has a great pool. It was mostly Tunisians staying there with a handful of Europeans and no issues at all. Left the hotel daily, walked down back streets, took the bus, hired a private driver instead of hotel excursions (much cheaper an e D'S has ASD and your coaches are jam packed) and never had any issues at all. The worst part was shopkeepers in souqs insisting that you come into their shops, but a fir m no just does the trick. I found the Tunisians to be extremely warm and helpful, never ever saw any lecherous behaviour maybe I'm too old and would definitely go back.

I had no issues in Hammamet either and I came back last week.

I haven't been to Tunisia for years, but from my experience I wouldn't go back, food was awful, water switched off at an unspecified time every night so couldn't flush the toilet, guard telling us we were on the Tunis train (and we weren't), I had a sickness bug and my friend had the runs. Admittedly, I was in my early 20s, but attracted a lot of attention inside and out of hotel, ie waiters blocking the restaurant door so we couldn't leave, local men trying to grab my friend so she'd tell them more about me.

I'd say look at reviews closely, and keep together as a family at all times.
