Girls holiday advice

Hi... looking for some advice if anyone been in this situation. Booked a girls holiday for 6 due to go away in a few weeks. I’m lead passenger. Holiday is all paid. Unfortunately 2 of the girls (sisters) father passed away suddenly and they are unable to make the holiday. As I am lead passenger I contacted Thomas cook to explain situation and asked if their names should be removed etc. Thomas cook have said to do this they need to cancel the whole holiday (non refundable) and we would need to book it all again with no guarantee of getting same dates, hotel etc. We have all booked time off work and organised childcare. Also we would need to go through insurance to get our money back as we have to start whole process and pay again!!! I told Thomas cook just to leave it for now. My question is... if we turn up on day and just say the girls have fallen ill suddenly will we still be able to get on flight without penalty charges etc? We are flying with Ryan air. Thanks in advance for any help!

Surely those who are going just turn up, and those who aren't, don't? Who told you that the whole booking would be cancelled?

Lyn276 · 17/06/2019 17:34

@LizzieMacQueen yes think that’s a better idea!

@TokyoSushi an advisor at Thomas cook, was on phone to them all afternoon being passed between people/put on hold and that was the outcome

Gosh, I wouldn't call again, those who are going, just turn up, you'll be fine, enjoy your holiday, hope your friends are OK.

Lyn276 · 17/06/2019 17:37

@TokyoSushi thanks so much Smile

I would just inform the Ryan Air staff at check in that the 2 girls won't be getting on the flight, so it avoids call outs for them on the tannoy and plane possibly being delayed incase they held the flight for a little bit.
Yes I too hope the 2 sisters are ok, awful circumstances.

Lyn276 · 17/06/2019 18:08

@RedWineAllMine thanks so much, it’s really horrible for them and so sad!!

The issue is OP clearly stated the issue and you didn’t even read the post - hence daft questions

It’s frustrating when people do this!!!

She said quite clearly to remove 2 people she has been told by the tour operator to cancel and rebook.

You than asked ‘who told you this?’

Annoying

justbeniceplease · 17/06/2019 19:05

@GreenTulips

I really didn't.

I read the post and told OP it wasn't necessary. I know who told her, my point was that she didn't need to call and be told how to remove names. The people travelling simply turn up and travel.

I said exactly what the others said.

justbeniceplease · 17/06/2019 19:06

Anyway, my advice was well intended. Show up, travel, enjoy holiday 🤷🏻‍♀️

GreenTulips · 17/06/2019 19:12

If OP hadn’t stated she’d phoned TC then people would be jumping on to say ‘ring them’

Can’t win

Allhailthesun · 17/06/2019 19:41

justbeniceplease ironic choice of name.
Why are you swearing at the Op?

She told you what the problem was and it was clear to most of us. However your answer was very patronising “ I don’t understand why you need to cancel and rebook”. She obviously she didn’t know how group booking through a tour operator worked and was looking for help.

justbeniceplease · 17/06/2019 19:43

Yes, swearing was wrong. Apologies. I stupidly let the posting get to me earlier. I genuinely was just trying to say 'don't waste your time doing all that unnecessary stuff, or creating lies, just turn up and travel'

But yeah, keep piling on at me.

Lyn276 · 17/06/2019 19:56

Thanks @GreenTulips and @Allhailthesun I’m glad you both understood what I was trying to say... was beginning to think I had made no sense Blush

@justbeniceplease it’s fine, apology accepted, no worries. Like pp said, I felt the way you worded it was patronising. I was genuinely just looking for advice. I’m actually not stupid, just not been in this situation before. I thought I had to cancel and rebook as that’s what I had been told by TC... I now know I don’t need to do that and I also know you didn’t mean it the way it came across. All sorted Smile
Thanks everyone for your help. You have eased a major bout of anxiety... defo not being lead passenger again on a booking, too much pressure and fear of doing something wrong and letting others down. Lesson learnt! Smile
