Virgin Train Euston to Manchester with a Pram

Travelling with a very chunky 7 week old. Ideally would like to keep him in pram as much as possible. Can anyone share their train experiences ? Where is it best to sit so that pram is beside me ? Travelling off peak on a Monday. Really need to undertake journey so can't be postponed and can't drive due to c section issues. Any wisdom appreciated Smile

What we used to do, long, long ago when we had a pushchair, was to book seats in the carriage with the wheelchair space - opposite the wheelchair space is a gap to enable a wheelchair to turn into the space. We used to park the pushchair in the gap. More often than not there was no wheelchair, but even if there was, you can move out of the space while they are manoevring and then use it again once they have finished.

You might also consider getting a family railcard - with the discount (30% off adult tickets, 60% off children's tickets) it can make the journey cheaper to buy a ticket for you and your baby than just one for you at full price. And means you can book a double seat for you and the baby.

I have to admit I always buy a ticket so I at least have somewhere to put the car seat (especially if baby has gone to sleep in it).

You can also book assistance at Euston where they take you to the platform as soon as the train is ready (often before announced) so you can get settled with the baby. Link to book is - www.virgintrains.co.uk/experience/assisted-travel
