Weather in Rockies and Vancouver

Would welcome advice on what clothing to pack for tour of Rockies plus a couple of days in Vancouver in late June/early July. I appreciate no one can predict the weather that far in advance with accuracy, but I'm just looking for a bit of guidance, eg in your experience are we most likely to need jeans and long sleeves/jeans and a jacket/T-shirts and jeans/T-shirts and shorts ? I appreciate that the climate will be different for up in the mountains compared to Vancouver. NB Any hiking we do will be short hikes from the main tourist towns. We have no plans to head off way into the wilderness!

Hi OP, we did similar around that time - Vancouver was 30+!

The rockies were generally dry and warm (mid 20s) - you'd want a fleece pullover if you were particularly high up, and perhaps a v light waterproof!

Vancouver = rain Grin

Knitclubchatter · 16/06/2019 21:42

expect hot muggy and mosquitoes.
everything light and easily layered.

Been there in July, weather was variable so I'd bring a few layers. Canada is very casual.

We were in Vancouver last summer for a week followed by a week in Whistler. Vancouver was wall to wall sunshine with temperatures around 25 degrees. Whistler was hot the first half of the week but overcast the second half when it got quite chilly.

Just like here, who knows! Vancouver has similar weather to the U.K. though slightly wetter. It's a pretty casual city though, I would suggest outdoor style clothes including layers and a waterproof jacket. Decent boots if you are walking in the rockies. Insect repellent, sun screen of course. Check the forecast just before you go. Shorts obviously if weather is looking good.

Agree with pp re layers and a raincoat. We were there in July 4 years ago - 14 degrees is not what I call summer weather!

We were in the Rockies in mid-July a few years back.

Can be quite warm and sunny, but with breezes. So we went with layering, and casual outdoorsy clothes - I had a few shorts (longish, hiking types ones mostly) and a pair of hiking trousers, a pair of jeans. A handful of covered shoulder tshirts, couple of strappy tshirts, and a couple of longer sleeved tops to layer for evening/chillier days, a light weight and a heavier hoodie, and a nice cardigan for evenings over a strappy top.

Pair of hiking shoes, pair of more casual shoes/loafers, and a pair of flip flops.

And then a rainproof/windproof jacket, a sun hat, and a backpack and water bottle for walking. I also had a buff to use as a neck scarf and as a hat, as needed.

Sun cream, BUG SPRAY!

Canada is very casual, certainly in the Rockies.

I am just back from Vancouver, it was lovely- low 20s everyday. I took 3 jumpers and a rain coat and carted them about (we did a road trip too) and it was really annoying!

If the weather is bad, buy a jumper!

It's snowing in Jasper today (10cm) so be prepared for anything. Check drivebc.ca for conditions before you head out.

I have just left - it was unexpectedly warm. Very casual. Definitely layers as pp have said. We needed hats and warmish jackets(I had a lightweight down one and it was fine) for the top of Sulphur mountain and for the Glacier if you do that. Lots of places to buy hoodies though.
