Travelling on a coach with a car seat

Basically we are planning to go to a due date group meet up in July when our babies are going to be 2 months old. I was looking into travelling by coach as it’s cheap, but of course children shouldn’t travel in car seats for too long, especially so young. How could we get around this? Would a train be any better? If travelling by train would we need a car seat?

Car seat wouldn’t work with either option and there wouldn’t be a seat belt to secure the car seat. Some coaches have seatbelts these day but I am not sure if all of them do.

I would also check if you need to pay for an extra seat if you are using a car seat, especially if the service is likely to be full.

How far away is it?? My NCT group were all quite local. I’d just drive tbh. You can stop when you need to then.

For the train, you're more likely to be able to keep the pram up, but not always easy on the long distance ones... if you're booking in advance, you might be able to secure a "4x table" seat which would give a bit more room than on a coach?

Travelling by train might be easier if you don’t have to change trains. It might be quicker too but you will have to check. If you aren’t going until July, you might be able to get first class tickets for very little extra money.

You don’t need a car seat on a train.

All coaches have seatbelts but you would need to book a seat and I'm not sure there's space for a rear facing car seat (I've only seen forward facing ones). It's legal to have babies on laps so most people do I suppose so they don't pay for a ticket. The train doesn't have seatbelts and there's a limited number of places you can keep your pram parked in but remember if a wheelchair boards you must take your baby out and collapse your pram immediately.
