i want to book a weekend in London for Myself, husband and three kids (9, 6 & 3). I was thinking of an apartment but they all seem to be at the luxury end of the market - apart from the question of price - I'd be a bit nervous with all that glass and white sofas ! Anyone have any sugestions ?

this might not be you bag at all but have you done youth hosteling?? you have a private family room now with your own bathroom and facilities pretty good. there are several in London in really central locations. me and dh and 3 kids aged 11 7 and 4 stayed in one near st pancras earlier in the year and it was great. breakfast included but you have to clear up your own plates!!

Try travelodge, you might get an interconnecting room.

the thistle victoria is v near my dp's workplace and is v nice. alternatively some unis offer cheap accommodation in the hols (try the LSE press office)

Here are some. I find this site is generally less posh than a lot of the apartment rental places. They're not that central.

Alternatively, there's a teacher training facility near us, that rents out rooms, they're not expensive at all, I'll see if I can find it.

Here it is.

It's quite cheap, and nice enough - we've put family there. The only problem would be,
you basically end up renting two rooms in a 4-7 bedroom flat. (At a price of £280/week? I think?) But from what I remember, the rooms
have locking doors.

Hi Dropscone, I am looking for exactly the same thing for a weekend in london in december to meet up with my brother 9 who lives in Borough). How did you get on? What did you book in the end?

I'm finding it really hard to get rooms to take 5 - even the larger rooms tend to be limited to four.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Hotel in Baker Street is very spacious - called the Sherlock Holmes Hotel. They have rooms with a massive double upstairs, and the kids were downstairs with their own little bathroom where the lounge was meant to be.. Would easily fit 3 beds down there, although wether they would do it is another matter!

They were great to us, breakfast included and not too expensive, considering you are a 5 minute walk from Oxford St, Regents Park, Madame Tussauds etc.

Worth a try, think the rooms were the loft rooms.
