Ferry from Liverpool to Dublin

Has anyone taken the ferry from Liverpool to Dublin? We're looking at doing the crossing however concerned about entertaining our 4 and 2 year old on board.
Is there actually anything to do? We went from Hull to Amsterdam a few years ago and there was a cinema and soft play area.
I've tried Google but can't find out.

I've been on it but it was an overnight sailing. I can't remember there being a cinema or a play area but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. I've also tried googling, but cant find info. If I was you I'd phone the ferry company.

Or would you consider overnight? You just get on about an hour or so before the sailing time and you can access your cabin straight away. You then sleep in your cabin until they get you up at about 4 am. To me that is preferable to sitting on a ferry for 8 hours in the daytime.

They all look pretty basic from the descriptions

I think the Liverpool to Dublin ferry is almost exclusively used by lorry drivers. I don't know if the daytime sailings are different, but I've been on several overnight sailings and if there were a hundred people on board, it was a couple of families, me and a colleague going to do some work in Ireland with too much equipment to fly with and the rest lorry drivers.

Is there a reason why you're looking at the ferry instead of flying and either using public transport or hiring a car?

Thanks for your replys, we want to take the boat rather than flying as we're going to center parcs in Ireland so will be taking kids bikes etc. I think we will look at the over night one, seems the best option so far :)

Can I ask why you are looking at Liverpool rather than Holyhead for departure? It’s a shorter crossing from Holyhead, and quicker as they run fastcrafts, plus I am guessing cheaper as well.

I have been going to Ireland to visit family all of my 56 yrs, but it is a long time since we sailed from Liverpool (we went from there when I was a child!) - always go from Holyhead now and have all my adult life.

I guess if you are in the far north of England then Holyhead may not be suitable, but the A55 through north Wales gives a very fast run across there.
