Lake Garda with children

Hello, we are going to Lake Garda next week, staying in Peschiera del Garda. We have 2 children ages 4 and 6 months and I was wondering if anyone had any tips/must do etc? We are planning a day to Gardaland but that's all we have planned at the moment.

Thank you!

You must go to Malcesine and go up Monte Baldo on the cable car to see the alpacas and have a grappa espresso (you, not the kids) at the restaurant.

Malcesine is by far my favourite town, but Riva is also pretty good for kids.

We also love Zeni vineyard near Bardolino but not particularly child friendly as an activity.

Parco Natura Viva is roughly 15-20 mins from Peschiera del Garda. There is the drive around the safari and also the Fauna Park (where you can walk around). There’s also a tropical greenhouse and a playground. It is pretty hilly, so little legs may get tired quickly. Also if you decide to go through the Safari part first just make sure none of your party need the toilet as there are none available on the way round!
If you want somewhere for them to run about then head to Park Sigurto. FromPeschiera you can cycle or drive there. There are plenty of walking trails, cycling trails and a cool mazeto try. If you didn’t want to walk around then you can take a train ride around a 6km route (extra to pay), or hire a golf buggy (they come with a GPS guide which looked pretty cool!), or just hire a bike and take your time exploring the park.
In Peschiera kids can walk the walls of La Rocca, a fort complex whose grass-topped walls form a bridge over the end of Peschiera’s harbor at the mouth of the river. Also on the walls is a playground, and below a little enclosed harbor is lined by cafes. La Vela is a good lunch or dinner stop— my children fed their bread to the ducks in the water below.

Sirmione is a total must visit. Our kids are similar ages and they loved it. Cool fortress, cute town with gelato, etc.

The north part of the lake is meant to be gorgeous but have not been yet.

As for city breaks, Verona, Padua and Venice are all easily accessible by train!

I just had a look at the weather. 33 with thunderstorms!

Really, REALLY watch the lake after storms. People get lulled because it's not the sea but it can get rough. And a 4 yo needs a hand on their arm at all times near the water.

DD was happy with a wander in the morning, eat pizza and ice cream, rest during the hottest part, wander again. We really liked Limone as well. Malcesine is lovely.

Thanks, we went a few weeks ago now, luckily before it got so warm but it was still high 20s every day. We caught the ferry to Sirmione and climbed the fortress and we had a day at Gardaland, it was a bit too warm to do much else but it was beautiful!
