All inclusive you can drive to from UK?????

Last couple of years we've been on All Inclusive package deals with TUI/Thomas Cook.
I have LOVED not having to worry about where we go / what we are having for lunch /dinner. One of the biggest stresses for me is keeping DH & DD fed! I like not having to say 'no' to DD if she wants yet another drink or snack.

I like that DD can make friends (she is an only child.)

DH has a fear of flying. I have got him on a plane 3 times in the last couple of years, but he'd like to take a break from it for a while. Before we've done UK holidays or driven to France/Germany.

What I'm looking for is an All Inclusive, package style holiday that we can drive to.

Any ideas?

The obvious suggestion would be a cruise?

ivykaty44 · 05/06/2019 22:13

You can get a ferry to Santander from Plymouth, drive across Spain to any all inclusive or get ferry to islands in med

stucknoue · 05/06/2019 22:17

Portsmouth to Santander ferry, it's then several hours to the land of ai hotels though, probably one overnight stop.

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/06/2019 22:30

Costa Brava or Dorada in Northern Spain would be the obvious choice. You'd probably have to book direct with the hotel - but search on package holiday sites to find something you like.

Or could you book a package and DH go by himself on the train (or all of you go by train)?

Good idea to look at different ferry routes.

I'm not great on the water, so we tend to just go Dover/Calais, but DH has faced flying, so guess I should put up with the sea sickness!

We could always drive through France and stop overnight somewhere.
Any recommended resorts in North Spain?

Kinderhotels? They are in Italy, Austria, Slovenia - Central Europe so not much further than Germany. They are all inclusive and have great kids clubs for your DD to meet other children (careful you choose one that gets other English speakers as they vary).

MustShowDH · 05/06/2019 22:34

Haha, I do keep telling DH that DD and I will go for 10days and he can drive and meet us there!

What about Holland? Ferry from hull

MustShowDH · 05/06/2019 22:37

Will look at Kinderhotels. Quite fancy Austria.

Thanks.

Loving all these good suggestions!

No suggestions for hotels, but I have used this app to get over my fear of flying.

Fly and be calm.

I paid the fee, it's been brilliant. Has also helped with claustrophobia, as it's not just flying specific.

I have also tried hypnosis, and a virgin fear of flying course, the app worked for me.

Hope you have a lovely time, wherever you end up!

We have just last week got the train to Spain and stayed in Salou in an all inclusive. We love Portaventura and try to visit once a year. St Pancras to Paris, then fast tgv to Barcelona. Lovely relaxing journey.

Before that we would either get the ferry to Santander or we would drive through France. We haven't flown to Spain in years.

ClubMed resorts in the Alps are AI, used for skiers in winter and then lakes and summer activities (obviously) through summer. All perfectly driveable over a couple of days(or one long overnight possibly)

TheCaddy · 06/06/2019 18:49

You don’t get sea sick really on cruise ships. There might be a dodgy day coming out of Southampton but there are tablets you can take.

reluctantbrit · 06/06/2019 20:49

I checked Kinderhotels as we are Germans and I thought it would be nice for DD to have German speaking playmates. I personally found them more geared for smaller children so be careful when choosing, check their activities and reviews.

I would check out Italy. If you could afford two overnight stops you could really have a great trip, doing some sightseeing as well.

reluctantbrit · 06/06/2019 20:51

TheCaddy - sorry, I disagree. DH gets seasick as soon as he is on an enclosed ship. Little ferries or so are ok as long as he is on the outside but any enclosed space means he is u well. He even slept outside on an overnight ferry.

We have been to Estival Park with TUI which is about an hour from Barcelona - that was good and included a waterpark about 10 minutes walk away as well as lots of pools, AI and entertainment and beach 2 mins walk. Fairly lively so I would more take a 10 plus year old there than say an under 5.

Within France think its jut ClubMed do AI, the food is good but one we went to (Vittel) no other British kids and kids club was really long days - something like 8am to 7pm. It seemed to be for people who wanted to play sport all day without kids getting in the way. Maybe the one in Provence might have more British kids. Very expensive compared with TUI - we got a good deal going last 3 days in September. Sporting facilities are good but wouldn't go back as wasn't great for kids. The Provence one does look lovely though.

We did a Kinderhotel (Hintertux) in Austria - ours was just half board but excellent food and very child friendly - lots of kids activities just for couple of hours. Was 3s to 10s roughly - farm animals, bouncy castle, massive playground. Would go back there and there was snow at top of mountain all year there which kids loved. Food was waiter service and high quality and did adapt for fussy kids.

Thanks all.

Some great ideas. Thanks Penguin for all the detail.
