Virgin to Orlando

Flying to Disney Florida this August. Hoping to pack teabags and snacks (biscuits, breakfast bars etc). I've been warned that I have to declare all Foodstuffs when we arrive at Orlando and that there maybe a chance that they'll be confiscated. Does anyone know anything about this?

but bottled water over there very cheap so is petrol so it all adds up

WelshMoth · 04/06/2019 16:04

Thanks Rosy but I meant the individual filter bottles so that we can fill up in the parks when we're out and about.

The forms asks 'fruits, vegetables, plants, seeds, food, insects:'

Therefore you must declare ALL food

Kathryn77 - just because you haven't been stopped doesn't make it right. If you have food and you have not declared it then you are lying on your customs declaration

i know what you mean you need water its very hot we took a back pack cooler bag and froze a large soda bottle full of water or squash which would slowly defrost over the day

stucknoue · 04/06/2019 18:50

Be aware that you can buy food in the US! See where the nearest largish supermarket is as many have large hot food to go counters (I don't just mean chickens), there's also places called "markets" which sell ready to eat food everywhere now it seemed. Saves a lot of money over going to restaurants

PonderingPanda · 04/06/2019 18:54

Are you on FB? I went to Orlando in February and got loads of help from It's Orlando Time

Quartz2208 · 04/06/2019 18:59

Last time I went (Christmas) the firm has gone it gets asked by the immigration officer.

I always take a suitcase full of cereal bars/crisps etc. CB is not near a cheap supermarket and it means we only have to buy 2 meals a day. It then gives space for souvenirs on the way back. We amazon order nature valley bars and Kellogg’s nutribars

They only care about fresh produce (meat fruit veg dairy etc) not processed and package foods

Quartz2208 · 04/06/2019 19:02

Oh and I recommend getting the cup that means at any resort you get drinks free (resort only) that means tea and coffee and all soft drinks

The machines in the food court also give out free water so we took water bottles (remember uk airports have drinking fountains as well for the journey) in the morning and then had iced water with meals saving drinks for the resorts. Also if we were walking between HS and Epcot we would take them for a refreshment break at a yacht/beach ckub

We just got back a few weeks ago. Didn't get given a customs form, had tea bags, squash and chocolate (it was Easter) in suitcase, can't recall lying to any questions!! May only have been asked if we had any fresh foods or maybe it was animal products? Wouldn't dare lie at US border anyway!!

Water in parks is absolutely fine to drink, you can get cups of ice water for free at all food outlets as well, but squash makes it more palatable (I don't like the taste of UK tap water anyway and it was no different to my area).

There's a large Walmart on US192 a few mins from disney, will probably be less than $10 with uber or lyft so recommend you visit and stock up!

I took a block of cheddar. It's fine, I was allowed to take pre packed cheddar according to their rules. Except we got a total jobsworth at customs. It was a nightmare. She referred us to the naughty people room, the officers in the naughty peoples room couldn't understand why we were there so they started falling out with the customs officer and we were then we n the middle looking like 🤷‍♀️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤷🏾‍♂️

WelshMoth · 04/06/2019 21:04

Thanks everyone. I'll stick to biscuits, cereal bars and teabags for the case. I've a huge home bargains near me and they sell stuff at a greatly reduced price. I was concerned with water for the parks - it's nothing to refill waterbottles as we walk around, but I've had mixed feedback about the taste of the water. I guess taking the tiny super concentrated squash will help with that.

Really excited. It's taken us 5 years to save for this.

We often eat breakfast in our room when we stay at a Disney resort. It’s definitely not as fun as eating at a Disney restaurant, but you are rewarded twice for it. Not only does it save you a lot of money, but it also saves you time. So, skip the food court, sleep a few extra minutes, and dine in your room.
Our favourite quick and easy in-room breakfast is instant porridge (made in the microwave) with fruit (sliced banana or a mixed fruit bowl). You could also do cereal with milk, or nut butter sandwiches. A few of the Disney World Value Resorts do not have in-room microwaves (or coffee makers), so check with your resort before you go.
You should know that you can get free ice cold tap water from any quick service location in the parks that serve drinks. It’s 100% free, just rock up and ask for a cup of water.
You can get Disney souveneirs much much much cheaper ahead of time and bring them to Disney World with you. Then, each day, you can surprise your child with something each day, giving them something new to focus on and keeping them out of the shops. Overall, doing it this way means you’ll spend a lot less money than on a like $90 princess dress.
Also take your own autograph books. Don’t buy them in the park!

Quartz2208 · 05/06/2019 09:21

Water fountain water is awful but the one in the food court at Caribbean beach is absolutely fine and I just filled up as much as I could at the start of the day

WelshMoth · 05/06/2019 14:55

Quartz do you think a filter bottle will help with this taste?
They're costly so don't want to invest without good reason.
