What to do in Ischia?

We're going to Ischia this summer and it seems to be a popular destination, so does anyone have tips on what to do when we're there? Just me and DH. Thanks!

I've only visited once as a teenager but from memory there's a beautiful garden called La Mortella which was created by the composer William Walton's wife and a nunnery, medieval torture museum, nice church across a causeway, somewhere on the island.

Ischia has hot springs so you might find a place to enjoy a hot spring fed pool? the hotel I stayed at had a pool like this I think (it was a long time ago!)

Have a nice time!!!

Thanks! We're definitely going to try the hot springs. We've found a botanical garden so I'll check if it's the one you mention.

I also remember there were a lot of mosquitoes at La Mortella as there were lots of water features, it was very peaceful though! I think we got the bus there from the centre of the resort we were near to.

Ooh ooh I love Ischia. Yes you must go to the Mortella botanical garden. It's very quirky, and has a nice tea room. It's bloody enormous though, it took ages to get round it all, but it's worth it for the views from the top over the amphitheatre.

We also hiked up Mount Epomeo, which was really nice, there is a restaurant at the top. You also see all of the Ischian bunny rabbits running about before they turn into the islands signature dish- Ischian Rabbit, which you get in loads of restaurants.

You must go to castello aragonese, which is on it's own little tiny island with a walkway up to it. It also has a weird medieval sexual torture chamber in it with loads of olden days BDSM type stuff in it which was...interesting.

We loved Ischia. Our hotel had a natural hot spring pool in it which was really cool and went spent lots of time bobbing about in the orange water. We also hardly saw any English tourists which was great, it felt far more authentically Italian that places like Lake Garda that always have loads of English and German tourists.

We did find that not that many people spoke English, so get an app dowloaded in case you need to translate from English to Italian.

Oh thanks! The garden is definitely on our list. We're also wondering about hiring a boat. And good tip about the app!

We swam mainly.

Agree with the other posters re hot springs etc. We took a hop on-hop off bus around the island and it was great way to see everything and stopped at some fabulous beaches - with more things to do/see at each one than just sunbathe.

It's a lovely place

There are two main thermal pool complexes - Negumbo and Poseidon. We preferred Negumbo but it's worth going to both as they are amazing.

St Angelo is a little out of the way but beautiful. Get the bus there and then walk down to the village.

Get a day bus pass and go round the island. There are only about 6 main towns so get off at each of them.

Ischia is one of my favourite places on earth.

The Nun's "graveyard" at the Castello. Hot springs in the sea at Forio I think. We loved the Poseidon complex. We rented scooters to go round the island. Our friends went to Capri for the day. We did an excursion to Pompeii instead.
