Taking my girl to London this weekend, any wonderful (unusual) things not to miss with a 12 year old? We are booked to go to the globe and have done obvious things like science museum/natural history museum before..

Dennis Severs House is meant to be fascinating if she likes history.

Does she like art? The Van Gogh exhibition is on at the Tate Britain. You could then take a boat shuttle to the Globe. If you come by train it is 2 for 1 on the tickets.

Yes, loves art so both ideas sound great! Would like to take her to a market too but not sure which one...

We had afternoon tea at Fortnum and Masons (it was £££ but she still talks about it now). Also loved the “Lush” store as apparently you can get “exclusive” London store items.

Camden market is great for teens

missyfafa · 29/05/2019 23:23

I guess you have to book Fortnums?

If you're going to Camden it's worth a walk up to Primrose Hill. I used to love celeb spotting when I was studying in the area. Just sit outside a cafe with a coffee and keep your eyes peeled.

If you go to Dennis Severs House (Book well in advance) you are next to Spittalfields market which is lovely. Camden is so packed now so get there early and in time for lunch as amazing street food.

If you want a cool afternoon tea Sketch is brilliant and really quirky.

The Van Gogh exhibition is sold out for advance booking for this Saturday. It's also bloody expensive - £22 adult (it's cheaper just to buy the catalogue) although children are £5.

Tate Modern is almost next door to the Globe. And next to that is Bankside Gallery which has small exhibitions and is free.

Then you could walk across the Millennium Bridge towards St Paul's and travel on from there.

We were lucky and we’re told they’d have a table free in 45 minutes (this was a cold February day). I’d book to be sure.

Thanks guys! All sounds brilliant. Just soaking up the atmosphere will be nice.
