Does anyone use travellers cheques anymore?

It's been a while since we've been abroad and i wondered if anyone uses travellers cheques anymore. I've read somewhere about prepaid cards where you withdraw money from cash machines.

No. I don't think as many places accept them now. We take some cash and then use our Nationwide credit/ debit cards for purchases/ withdrawals (one is fee free for purchases and the other is fee free for withdrawals)

No! I’m honestly not sure they are much use these days.
I use a Caxton fx card which is a prepay card that works without extra fees in other currencies. I swear by it. And I think it’s a good way of being a bit safer with my cards when I’m away as I leave everything else in the safe at the hotel and it means, heaven forbid, something happens, I still have other payment options.

I think you'd be daft to use TCs. They will cost you more money and will be inconvenient to change (depending on where you go).

Pre loaded cards usually charge some fees. Your best option is a credit or debit card which does not charge commission or take a cut of the exchange. They are listed here:

Starling card, no fees on payments or ATM withdrawals worldwide, no ATM limit and you get the interbank (wholesale) exchange rate.

Always decline any offer to convert into pounds by ATMs and card payment machines. Use bank ATMs that don't charge a local fee and avoid the blue and yellow Euronet ATMs that are everywhere.

Thanks everyone, you've all been really helpful.
I'll look into preloaded cards and credit cards. I've checked my debit card and it's a rip off so won't be using that!
