Where to go - 8 month old - within UK

Hey,

I'm looking to go away with my other half and daughter (8 months old) at the end of June/early July.

Money has been a bit tight, so thinking a UK based walking/cottage type holiday which we can drive to.

We are based outside of London, but are happy to travel. I haven't really done much travelling in the UK - anyone got any advice on somewhere which is a rural, available and cheap?

Thanks,

Amit

I would look for an area which interests you.

We found the Forest of Dean cheap last Summer compared to other areas but it is a fairly outdoor area so if you like walking it may be for you. Walks weren't buggy friendly though, we had a back carrier for DD at that age when we did a walking holiday in Devon.

We are in SE London and stayed overnight on route to break up the drive though.

The new forest can be as cheap or expensive as you like. If you stay in a lodge or caravan you can pack lunch and have space for dd to sleep and roam. You can go for walks and enjoy time together. The are farms, the beaches close by, country parks. One of my favourite places in the world.

We just stayed outside Tenby last week with our eight month old. It's fab as its has 2 zoos and miles of sandy beaches. We loved it

Hall Hills in the Lake District is tucked away from it all and has some stunning walks right on the doorstep and Hadrian’s Wall footpath is not too far either.
Travel cots, bedding, high chair, nappy bin, changing mat, cot toys, plastic bowls and cutlery, night light and baby bath are all available free.

Burnfoot Holiday cottages are in an ideal position on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, but close enough to the coast and attractions such as the National Trust Cragside, Alnwick Castle, Seahouses and Holy Island. There are several lovely walks that can be taken direct from Burnfoot - following the burn down towards the River Coquet; following the road past the fish pass to Netherton village and beyond into the National Park; or following the burn upstream into the Cheviot Hills. You could quite easily fill your holiday with a different walk each day. Travel cots, stair gates and high chairs are available free.

If you don’t want to go quite so far north, you can get some lovely walking in the Peak District. The cottages at Wheeldon Trees Farm have all the baby stuff you could possibly wish for. Including bath, gym/playmat, baby monitor, toys, bottle steriliser, changing mat, back carrier (Vaude Jolly), Maclaren Quest Pushchair, nappy sacks, travel cot etc etc...
