We're off to Devon in September with our two dd's who will be just 3 and 16 months - dd2 has cerebral palsy and at the moment can't walk or crawl and looks quite little for 16 months. DD1 is obsessed by diggers and we have promised her a trip to Diggerland but looking at the website there looks like there will be nothing for dd2 to do.
I contacted Diggerland and received this reply :
"In Diggerland there are about 15 different activities - all rides and drives themed around and using real construction machinery.
Officially, the minimum age to go on these rides and drives is from age 2 and upwards.
A 2 year old can go on 5 of the rides with an adult to help, and a 3 year old can go on about 10 of them with an adult to help. (Which is why we start charging for admission from age 3 and upwards, as we recognise that there are fewer things that a 2 year old can go on.
So age 2 is the official recommended minimum age to go on some of the diggers, with an adult to help.
I suspect that, in the "real world" the marshals do allow children younger than 2 to go on the machines for which the minimum age is 2.. how can a marshal tell if a child is, say, 23 months old or 25 months old?
So, in fact, your 3 year old would be able to go on about 10 of the activities with an adult to help, and your younger child would be able to go on about 5 of the activities, with an adult to help."
I think it's all a bit dubious - are health and safety recommendations for precisely that? And I really don't think dd2 is going to pass for a '23 month old' anyway. What do you think? Has anyone been to Diggerland with a pre-walking little one?
