Diggerland with a 16 month old?

We're off to Devon in September with our two dd's who will be just 3 and 16 months - dd2 has cerebral palsy and at the moment can't walk or crawl and looks quite little for 16 months. DD1 is obsessed by diggers and we have promised her a trip to Diggerland but looking at the website there looks like there will be nothing for dd2 to do.

I contacted Diggerland and received this reply :
"In Diggerland there are about 15 different activities - all rides and drives themed around and using real construction machinery.

Officially, the minimum age to go on these rides and drives is from age 2 and upwards.

A 2 year old can go on 5 of the rides with an adult to help, and a 3 year old can go on about 10 of them with an adult to help. (Which is why we start charging for admission from age 3 and upwards, as we recognise that there are fewer things that a 2 year old can go on.

So age 2 is the official recommended minimum age to go on some of the diggers, with an adult to help.

I suspect that, in the "real world" the marshals do allow children younger than 2 to go on the machines for which the minimum age is 2.. how can a marshal tell if a child is, say, 23 months old or 25 months old?

So, in fact, your 3 year old would be able to go on about 10 of the activities with an adult to help, and your younger child would be able to go on about 5 of the activities, with an adult to help."

I think it's all a bit dubious - are health and safety recommendations for precisely that? And I really don't think dd2 is going to pass for a '23 month old' anyway. What do you think? Has anyone been to Diggerland with a pre-walking little one?

we live near it (daytrip) and ds is 3.6 and we have been advised by friends to wait til next year so he can do more.

We have just been to Devon with a JCB obsessed 2.9 year old ds but didn't go as it's fairly expensive while they are still at the stand and stare stage. just go and hang around some roadworks instead

i am sorry pmsl @ diggerland. i agree go and look at some roadworks.

Mine were about 4, 6 and 8 when we went to the one up north somewhere (maybe a year older) so no experience of a pre-walking child, but IMHO it's a waste of money until they can both enjoy the activities properly.

Would imagine they'd go on size more than anything, but a 16 month wouldn't pass for a 2 year old.

They'll get so much more out of it too when they're older.
