Seychelles or Mauritius?

Looking at August 2020 as a big treat holiday, hopefully all-inclusive with DH DD16 and DS9, looking for things to do/places to explore as well as beaching it

Neither. Maldives instead!

mommydragon · 16/05/2019 23:00

Agree with previous poster...Mauritius is so overrated. Second Maldives, but do check the weather that time of the year, it is meant to be rainy season. You don't want to spend all that money and see rain for a week or so. Perhaps reschedule.

DangerousMouse · 17/05/2019 09:50

Maldives looks amazing but lots of scuba diving and water activities... I'm scared of the sea! Is the Maldives family suitable? Not just honeymooners. What is there to do/explore in the Maldives that doesn't involve the sea?
Actually my DD is doing her GCSE's next year so we'll take DS out of school for the last week of term so it'd be mid/late July we go. We definitely don't want to go in rainy season.

How about Mexico? We went at that time of year, had 5 days in New York followed by 2 weeks on the coast. Lots to explore and great all inclusive.

We stayed at Constance Ephelia on Mahe...loads of activities for families of all ages ...no AI , but did half board (Seychelles hotels not often AI) but the food was gorgeous ...thoroughly recommend

The island is beautiful and so tropical!...we hired a guide for the day to see the island and visited the capital and local market as well as seeing the rainforest
We booked with Trailfinders but have also used Travelbag who also have great deals for exotic holidays

Teddybear45 · 18/05/2019 05:37

Neither. If you want to go that close to India, go to Goa instead. A lot more to do with kids, food is a million times better, and you have far more transport options. Also activities are a lot cheaper and resorts nicer.

Flobochin · 18/05/2019 06:21

If you don't like the sea, don't go to Maldives because you go there for the sea!

Same for Seychelles.

Mauritius is lovely, lots to do there and just lovely people.

eurochick · 18/05/2019 08:09

If you don't love the sea don't go to Seychelles or the Maldives. That is what they are all about. Mauritius has more non-water activities but with children the ages you mention, have you considered a safari or Thailand or Borneo, for example? There is a lot more in those places that doesn't revolve around the water.

madcatladyforever · 18/05/2019 08:14

I lived in Mauritius for 6 years and I would say there is a lot more to do there than in the Seychelles.

Swishswish26 · 18/05/2019 08:14

I went to Mauritius in early July a few years ago and had disappointing weather- temperatures of 18 degrees and lots of rain and overcast days. It was also dark by 7pm so definitely check what the average weather is for August.

DangerousMouse · 20/05/2019 11:04

Slight change of plan, we've decided on Borneo!

Same as @stopyourhavering64, gorgeous hotel with large grounds. We did a boat day trip over to La Digue which was stunning, hire a bike a cycle the island. Mahe has lots to do, we did a private day tour which took us anywhere we wanted.

eurochick · 21/05/2019 13:38

Fantastic! We went a few years ago and had an amazing time. We did a few days on a little island watching baby turtles being released, sepilok, a river safari and a few days in five star luxury at the end. Loved it!

DangerousMouse · 23/05/2019 10:28

eurochick we hope to do the river safari too, we hope to stay at the Shangri La and do lots of day trips out

I always wanted to go to Mauritius but was totally put off when that lovely girl, Michaela Harte Mc Arevey was murdered on her honeymoon by hotel workers. Sad

eurochick · 25/05/2019 16:51

@DangerousMouse our few days of luxury were spent at the Rasa Ria. It was funny turning up there grubby and smelly in an old t shirt and cargo pants after the jungle stint. You'll have a fabulous time. Smile
