Guernsey holiday insider information?

Hi Guernsey residents and Those Who Have Been,

We are looking forward to a week in Guersey soon, staying near Vazon Bay. We are planning to use buses to get around and can see there is a walk to another nearby beach. We will of course visit St Peter Port and we may have a boat trip to another smaller island (any recommendations as to which to choose?).

We will be self-catering and I‘m merrily assuming I can get everything we need there, will likely be eating out at least once a day.

Kids are primary school age so non/recommended museums etc welcome. I would like to see some of the WW2 historical sites and the Victor Hugo house, though will probably do the latter on my own!

Thanks for any advice. Oh yes, weather, I am assuming it could be anything, same as here!

Vazon is a surfing hotspot. There’s a surf school based on the beach which offers one-to-one and family lessons, and body suits, surf and body boards are for hire. Sand racing events often take place and there are also plenty of rock pools to go exploring in when the tide goes out. If it's a light snack or an ice cream you want, head to Richmond Kiosk located towards the western end of the bay. If you want a bigger selection of food and rooftop dining with beautiful views of the beach, check out Vistas or Crabby Jacks at the eastern end. Both are family friendly and perfect for enjoying dinner after a day out on the sand.
There’s a Guernsey sightseeing route, The Guernsey Vaeux (numbers 91, 92, 93), which goes all the way around the island, allowing you to get off at various attractions. The flat fare is £2 for all journeys of any distance on all routes; children three and under go free, older children pay the flat rate. There is also a range of travel passes: from £4.50 for a one-day pass, to £38 for a seven-day family pass, good for two adults and up to three children.
On selected Sundays from May to September, St Peter Port's seafront is closed to traffic and Seafront Sundays take place.

The occupation museum is interesting (and very close to St Peter Port, easily walkable), so is the old Underground hospital which has not been redeveloped in the same way as the Jersey one which has more of a museum feel to it. There's an aquarium near the occupation museum as well.

In terms of trips to other islands, Alderney is a bit far away but you can get to Herm in 20 minutes and Sark in about 45.

Christies is a lovely restaurant in St Peter Port. It's also worth walking along the coast to Fermain Bay from St Peter Port where there is a nice cafe (but it's busy when the weather is good).

If the weather isn't so good there is the Beau Sejour leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool.

Oh and if you are there on a Saturday morning there is a parkrun on the north coast near the Beach House.

Erm, does anyone know whether some of the buses are running a sparser, holiday timetable this week? The website is NO help at all . We waited for ever for the 92 today and it never came, ditto the 91 yesterday (although it was a Bank Hol). The 42 keeps appearing but we would really like to be able to do the coast road for some of the sights, history etc.
