Spain in October half term?

Price of flights to Alicante don't look too bad (for a school holiday!) and been looking at renting a small villa in/near Calpe or Moraira

Does anyone have any experience of going to Costa Blanca at that time of year?

What weather could we reasonably expect?

The weather can be unpredictable, but it’s not cold. Some of the restaurants and bars might have closed, but Calpe has a lot of locals eating out, going for coffee etc. so there will still plenty of places open.
On a sunny day it’s great.

The weather will be hit and miss and some places will be shut or shutting.

I lived in that area until 2 years ago. October can be glorious, with a warm sea and warm days but cool evenings. However, it is also the month when that area of Spain can get a lot of rain. It can rain torrentially for 3 or 4 days non stop and feel cold. We experienced this one October when our grandchildren came for a visit.

Mmmm thanks, so it's potentially risky weather wise then?

I did it last October. We had some sunny days and some cold days. The outdoor hotel pool was freezing but they had a lovely warm indoor one. We had a good time and I would do it again. It was quiet as it was the end of season but then we also got a very good price because of that.

Of course, the week after we had been, I checked the weather and it was glorious all week!

zonkin · 11/05/2019 17:13

When I say we had some cold days, I meant cold relative to the warm days. Obviously much warmer than the UK. Cardigan weather days and overcast

Bunnybigears · 11/05/2019 17:13

The problem is Spain doesn't generally have that much by the way of indoor things to do with kids so if you go make sure the hotel at least has an indoor (heated) pool.

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 11/05/2019 17:18

That's a good point Bunny

I have been looking at villas (with outside pool) but looking for a hotel with an indoor pool might be a better option.

I'm no too worried about the temperature and my kids would happily go in the pool even if it's a bit chilly but several days of torrential rain would be pretty grim!

It can rain and quite a lot of things can be already shut up for the winter so do check before you book anything. How about the canneries instead

Hoppinggreen · 11/05/2019 20:02

We own a property on the Spanish/ Portuguese border West of Seville
We usually go in October and the weather is pretty nice, it’s around 20 -25 degrees during the day and has got up to the high 20s before, rarely rains then ( unlike April). Kids are happy to use the pool and sea

youarenotkiddingme · 11/05/2019 20:05

Weather can be hit and Miss. but the advantage is the pools and sea are at their warmest after the summer months of being heated up!

If you are a beach/pool only family I'd pick a different time of year.

If you like exploring etc then it's fine.
