Cala Bona, Majorca

DannyWhizBang · 10/05/2019 08:12

We're thinking of booking the Protur Bonaire in Cala Bona, Majorca for end of Sept. (Me, DH and DD3)
We would be Self Catering so just trying to find out what the Resort of Cala Bona is like?
I have been to Tenerife the last few years, but would like something maybe not as built up and we need a shorter flight time.
Also if you are able to compare Cala Bona to any areas of Tenerife just to give me a rough idea what it's like?

Any Cala Bona/ Majorca advice in general? We would be hiring a car too.

We went there a few years back and the hotel would be heaven for a 3 year old - you probably wouldn’t need to leave the hotel much! Pools are so nice and plenty of evening entertainment. As far as I remember there’s not much in Cala bona itself - one or two nice restaurants where you can sit by the sea and a few small shops. If you keep walking you get to a bigger resort which has a lovely beach but that would probably be a bit of a trek with a small child but there is a land train. Not sure how it compares to Tenerife, sorry, but an ideal holiday for small children.

Thank you!

Anyone else?

We went for years to cala bona! The Bonaire is at the far end but you can walk right on the front through Cala bona, to Cala Millie, s'illiot to sa coma.

There's four wheel bike type things you can hire and if you took a buggy you'd be fine.

Cala Millor has little fairground rides, there's an amazing crazy golf at the safari hotel in as coma and there's loads of lovely bars and restaurants along the front.

The Bonaire is huge but as long as you weren't going in the main school summer holidays, you'd be fine.

The beaches are all lovely and Cala millor has a lovely marina with nice bars and restaurants. I'd definitely recommend it.

The hotel is fab, but we were all inclusive so don’t remember much about the restaurants etc in Cala Bona. We went for a Thai once which was nice Smile.

As a pp said, you can hire these buggy cycle things and take a ride along to Cala Millor, which has a great beach and lots of cafes, shops etc.

Wow watching as perfect timing thanks op, I’m going next week!!
Not the same hotel but same area.

I stayed in the protor vista badia in sa coma which is about 30 mins walk away (the resorts go Cala bona, Cala Millor then sa coma). All three resorts were nice, though I'd personally avoid Cala millor on the grounds of being the most touristy with a very very busy beach. The protor hotel we stayed in was of a very high standard - we've stayed in far more expensive places worldwide with a far worse standard of food, drink and entertainment. We didn't have children at the time but I'd definitely like to go back one day with a little one.
My DH and I dined out at Sa Punta in Cala bona one nights which was a great experience - it's fairly pricey but the sunset views were spectacular and the steak was to die for.

Ps the land train is very handy for getting about but form a cheaper option there are regular public buses that go up and down between the resorts, as well as buses to Palma and to the local Caves for day trips if you don't have a car

Avocuddles · 11/05/2019 16:34

Apologies just read that you will have a car but nonetheless the public transport is good!

We stayed at that hotel years ago and we enjoyed it. It's probably changed quite a bit but
We found it to be ideal for the ages our kids were at the time 5 and 18mths. We were self catering and found a good selection of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The resort is quiet but you can walk along the seafront to the larger neighbouring resort if you want a bit more going on. The little bay there is really nice and calm.

We stayed there at Easter. It's a lovely hotel. Absolutely brilliant for kids. Would highly recommend!

sproutsandparsnips · 12/05/2019 19:42

Stayed there 2 years in a row about 7 years ago and really enjoyed it.

RaggieDolls · 12/05/2019 19:46

I've been to that hotel. DCs loved it. We were AI and I was pleased we were as I didn't think there was much in the resort.

Duvetdweller · 12/05/2019 19:49

It’s a great hotel! We are looking at going back to the area but going self catering as there is such a wide range of restaurants. We hired bikes for the whole time we were there and just bikes along the front to different beaches everyday. Loved it - such a great area. There’s a shop about 2 mins walk from the hotel.

PeonyTruffle · 12/05/2019 20:00

Have stayed in 2 different proturs but in Sa Coma, a couple of resorts along. Couldn't fault them and love the area. We went into Cala Milor a couple of times as it was quite buzzy with some nice restaurants.

Back to Majorca in a week but trying out Palma Nova this time :)

Turquoisetamborine · 12/05/2019 20:04

We stayed at the Holiday Village near there a couple of years ago. The resorts were nice, very family orientated. Do your self a favour and book into the Son Floriana restaurant when you’re there. Don’t worry about taking the kids (it looks posh) they’re very friendly and the food is amazing.

DannyWhizBang · 12/05/2019 20:10

Thanks everyone that's really helpful. Just need to persuade DH now Grin

Mosquitos 🦟 everywhere

Staywithmemyblood · 12/05/2019 20:52

We stayed at the Bonaire 2 years in a row when DD was younger. Perfect for family hol Smile We were all-inclusive so didn't need to venture much into Cala Bona. Very relaxing hol and met some lovely people. No mosquitos (July)

mrspk · 15/05/2019 20:56

We stayed there when our son was that age, had a great time. There was a trampoline park in the town which he loved too. Several nice restaurants in the harbour.

mrspk · 15/05/2019 20:59

We liked it better than Tenerife. It's not too built up. If you have a car Palma is a nice day out and Pollensa very nice too.
