I'm trying to get a good travel insurance deal for my folks who are off to US in Sept - it's expensive when you've over 65 so if anyone's parents travel and have a good tip I'd be grateful.

we asked arourd for my dad hes 85 with heart trouble some were £450 but age concern was only £130

We had a nightmare finding insurance for Alaska for my Gran who's over 80 - they varied in price hugely, the most expensive was Help the Aged

Age Concern has been the best that my parents etc. have used. Although, you might like to try Saga - they're bound to have some contacts.

My mum - now 81 and with a chronic heart condition - cannot now get insurance to travel, although her private health insurance would cover any necessary medical bills.

My Aunt - who is 75 ish - and is in generally good health although she takes blood pressure tablets - has just paid around £200 for an annual policy which covers Europe and the Caribbean thru' Age Concern.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone - really helpful - I've also called the Post Office and they are going to call me back.

I think the prices vary hugely so its helpful to have some recommendations.

Mine have insurance included with their bank account - (they have to keep a minimum amount in their account to qualify). Is it worth checking to see if your folks have a similar arrangement that they are unaware of?

Or if they have credit cards, it can sometimes be a perk from them ie. goldfish include it for a very small fee. Have they any credit cards you could check with?

Compare quotes on Moneysupermarket instead of ringing around them all.

Kbear · 17/07/2007 09:47

I looked on moneysupermarket.com but if you're over 65 on most of the companies there you have to ring and actually speak to someone to get a quote. Tis a long boring process!

Post office just quoted £318

Primary insurance based on two weeks in September is £152.66 (couples insurance including baggage) or £129.76 not inc baggage.

bubblerock - thanks for the link - when I put in the details I got £179 per couple - which is still good (with baggage).

many thanks
