I am wondering what destinations would suit me[a 65-year old Granny] and my lovely little 3.5 grandson for occasional long weekends?.[Would have to be by train, which is great because he loves trains/boats/planes-I don't drive]. His Mum is so tired, with morning sickness.I see him very often so he is comfortable with me. [My home is being renovated so that is out for this bank holiday]. All suggestions very gratefully received!

York.

Castles, Vikings, and a train museum!

Thanks, that's a great idea! Maybe for next year, though- he is still very little to be quite so far away from his Mum. He has yet to sped a night away with just me, without at least one parent there too! [Eeeeek!]

Warwick Castle? It is directly in town and there must a B&Bs or similar around.

We went with DD when she was 3.5 and she had a great time.

Train to Brighton for 2 days? Or Bournemouth?

FranklinTheCat · 30/04/2019 21:57

Whitstable? Broadstairs? Both good options if you want a beach.

Bournemouth is a good shout, you could bus to Poole and get the boat to Brownsea Island. But lots to do in Bournemouth itself.

Cambridge? There are lots of green spaces, double decker buses and possibly some kid-friendly museums. You might also be able to get to Imperial War Museum Duxford from Cambridge, or Whittlesford Parkway. My DS is a similar age and loves it.

Southampton for Peppa Pig World?

Thanks for the very useful ideas [but perhaps not Brighton... that's where I live :-D [just renovating house so it's not very toddler-friendly right now...]! Bournemouth is a great idea!
And thanks for the brilliant idea of Peppa Pig World- he LOVES Peppa pig, i had no idea there was such a place!

Norwich has a castle with a dragon in it, and you can take river trips and stuff.

FranklinTheCat · 30/04/2019 23:05

You're welcome - we are also off to meet The Pig in the near future! There are a lot of packages by Paultons which offer two days entry and a night in a hotel, which is apparently sometimes better value than doing it yourself.

Thank you so much! He will definitely be visiting Peppa, George and Donny Dog!

Bristol has @bristol which is very interactive for small ones and also the SS Great Britain to walk around. it is very accessible by train and bus. You could also go to Weymouth which wouldn't be too far. Legoland is fantastic too.

Thanks, those are great suggestions!
