Go on travel supermarket and you can add your pre existing conditions

I've just paid £50 for me & 2 dcs
I have 3 existing conditions

Homefireburn1ng · 24/04/2019 20:48

What are your conditions?

Try Just Travel and All clear
I have hypertension and a severe autoimmune disease and currently on chemotherapy and managed to get insurance for long haul holiday so I'm sure you'll get insurance with a hernia

BasilWhoosh · 25/04/2019 12:20

The Post Office travel insurance always used to be good for pre-existing conditions.

UrsulaPandress · 25/04/2019 12:23

I get travel insurance with breast cancer (treated), a hernia and an ulcer.

Not sure why you think you wouldn’t.

Homefireburn1ng · 25/04/2019 17:02

Ursula has your hernia been operated on?When I google travel insurance for hernia I just get companies saying it’s impossible to get insurance for hernias.

Don’t know whether to rush an op and pay privately before.😩

You're much better phoning the insurance companies ( look at ones I've previously mentioned) and explain situation rather than looking on price comparison websites which are too generic and really only fine if you have no pre existing conditions ....I've had hysterectomy and didn't have any issues...are you on waiting list for surgery as this may flag up something ( as waiting treatment) but shouldn't prevent you from going on holiday

Homefireburn1ng · 25/04/2019 18:35

Just been diagnosed with it. Waiting for an appointment to discuss next steps. Could be weeks. Go end of July so looking to get a private consultation so at least we have something to go the insurance companies with. Hoping we’d get one next week.

No mine hasn't been operated on and that has not been suggested. It's a hiatus hernia and from what I've read operations are not routinely offered.

Homefireburn1ng · 26/04/2019 06:49

That’s really encouraging. Who do you get insurance with and does it cover the hernia?

I always use a comparison website, fill in all my medical problems and it returns loads of quotes from different companies. I'm currently on holiday in Africa and paid £97 for three weeks cover for two of us with No Limits Travel Insurance.

legolimb · 26/04/2019 15:03

I have my insurance through Insure and Go.

It's an annual, worldwide family policy (but now just me and DH as the DC are too old and don't travel with us anymore).

I have a medical problem - (blood clotting disorder, previous DVTS) and just pay extra to cover this. It's not cheap, but we do travel often so probably works out to be worth it.

It's definitely easier to just phone a company and discuss it in person - the online websites will either just deny you or get you to phone up and speak with an advisor

My Dad purchased travel insurance to the USA with a hiatus hernia being one of the conditions (his has not been operated on either and is controlled with tablets). Think he is with allclear as well.

Do not bother with the price comparison websites as you will need something other than a standard policy.

Hiphopopotamous · 26/04/2019 21:07

What sort of hernia will make a massive difference here.
Hiatus hernia - no biggie
Femoral/inguinal have higher chance of strangulating, would be more ££

NewIdeasToday · 26/04/2019 21:21

I have insurance for pre existing conditions via Insure and Go. It is expensive as I went for highest level of cover. But they have paid out twice for expensive issues and given me good advice. So I’m very happy with their service.

Homefireburn1ng · 27/04/2019 06:57

Hip it’s inguinal but small. Typed it in to Allclear and several came up but going to trawl through properly today. Got a private appointment, might bite the bulletin and get it done before which will be financially painful but we’d have 3 months before travel. Not sure which would be best option. Utter nightmare. Appreciate all the advice.

Not too worried about cost of insurance( within reason) as long as we can get some.
