Anybody been? We are 95% set on going there with us and 8 year old DS. We fancy being a bit away from the main resort places, wanted somewhere with a bit of local charm, yet we can eat our for dinner. We were thinking of staying in the Tigaiga Suites. We did look at the San Felipe but the hotel rooms look a bit tired, although not sure if we should compromise and go there as they have a kids club.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Or are we mad and should we go to the south side of the island? We hate big concrete resorts, get bored sitting in a hotel all day etc.

Was there a couple of years ago - it's lovely & so Spanish.

But - it was just DH & I (both 60++).

The Tigaiga hotel is lovely (didn't stay there) but up the top of a hill & about 10 mins walk down to the front. Taxis are v cheap for on the way up if you feel lazy.

The older, pedestrianised bit of the town is great for places to eat & much cheaper than the South.

I would love to go back..

Be careful if swimming in the sea, off the beaches as there can be quite an undertow on some of them.

The outdoor sea swimming pool - Lago di Martianez is lovely as are the botanic gardens. Great bus service to other places as well.

Restaurante Tropical

Had some of the best fish I've ever eaten (& it does kids' food as well). It's in the pedestrian area I was talking about in my last post. A couple of years ago 2 courses for two people & a bottle of wine & the bill was about 25 euros.

Thank you for your reply. It does seem to attract an older clientele! Where did you stay?

We rented a house - up the hill about half a mile from Tigaiga.

When we were there (mid December - mid Jan) I would have said that at least 50%+ of the visitors were Spanish & lots of Finns. Age wise - it didn't seem any older to me than any other Canary resorts I've been to, with the exception of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote which was very young family orientated.

therealtenerife.com/ This is a great place for info - worth going through quite a lot of it.
