Will DB get a refund?

Posting on behalf of my DB who was due to fly to India in November.

He was flying with Jet Airways who look to be going into administration as they couldn't secure lending to pay off its creditors.

In this situation what happens to the money him and SIL paid for flights? Would it get refunded?

As far as I know they don't have any travel insurance.. unsure if this comes into play or not

How did they pay? If by credit card then they will have protection under that

mcjx · 17/04/2019 14:50

@dementedpixie Debit card they paid on I believe!

Debit card is trickier to claim on as its not covered by the consumer credit act. Could try doing a chargeback

I think they will struggle if they don't have insurance

Their insurance won't have paid out even if they did have scheduled airline failure cover.

We had it when Monarch failed, but all the insurance will do is get you home if you have travelled. It doesn't pay for new flights if you haven't commenced your outbound journey.

Best bet is a chargeback with the debit card. Credit cards are better for this sort of thing, as it also covers consequential losses - ie if your DB books new flights, they are likely to cost more and a credit card pays this too, while a debit card doesn't.

Oh dear.. looks like it's going to be difficult to recoup the money if he's paid on debit card (I'm sure he has this time). Last few holidays they've done it on a credit card.

Is there a limit of time for which you can do a chargeback? They did book this holiday a few months ago now
