Nice places in northern France

DH, kids and I are looking to camp for 5 nights somewhere in northern France between Calais and Caen.

Are there any particularly nice areas to visit? I'm not looking for specific campsite recommendations, more just general areas worth visiting.

We like quite picturesque places, off the beaten track and away from tourists. Last year's holiday was in rural Holland and was fab!

Many thanks,

There are some nice seaside resorts. Le Touquet is nice and about 45 minutes from Calais. Or Deauville and Jongleur in Normandy. If you stay nearer to Caen, you can also visit the D-Day landing beaches.

Campsites slightly inland will be more spacious and peaceful.

Honfleur and Bayeux are very nice.

I came on to say Honfleur. Pretty, traditional, and not too far from Calais.

Honfleur is close to Le Havre, but it is 275km from Calais.

Oops, just seen that my post should say Honfleur but my phone has autocorrected to Jongleur.

The coast north west of Caen is lovely, plus there's all the d day landing museums and cemeteries. Highly recommended

Thanks All for your messages - I thought my thread had disappeared into the depths of Mumsnet never to be seen again!

We've booked to stay near Bayeux, so fingers crossed it will be good! Smile

Bayeux is lovely, as are the surrounding towns, villages and coast.
The Bayeux tapestry was one of the most memorable things I’ve ever seen. The sheer history, enormity and skill depicted was remarkable.
Our DCs really loved holidaying in the area.
