Sun in May, Turkey?

PineapplePatty · 08/04/2019 08:38

I'm looking for a week away mid May, just two adults. Temperature wise it looks ok in Turkey but I've never been.

Any recommendations for a first timer, or anywhere else nice in May? (Not Cyprus, love it but been there lots recently)

TIA

Turkey is beautiful.

I like Side, lovely beaches and market town with a few ruins.

How hot do you want OP - beach weather or just pleasant wandering and sightseeing weather? Most of the southern/eastern Med is warm and pleasant in May. Malta, Sicily, southern Spain and Portugal - but if you want to lie on the beach and sunbathe (so 25 degrees plus), then check out this website www.weather2travel.com/ as it gives month-by-month weather data.

Whatever the weather the sea will be cold.

PineapplePatty · 08/04/2019 10:05

Thank you. I know the sea won't be warm enough to swim in but I really need a bit of sun on my face.

Sunbathing weather would be great.

If you really want sunbathing weather then I think you'll have to go further afield - Egypt, Dubai, Caribbean. If 'the sun on your face' is enough then southern/eastern Med will provide that.

MId May Turkey will be fine, lovely during the data a bit chilly at night.
We used to go to Fetiye a lot and liked it very much. Good bars and restaurants not to in your face.
I have swam in the sea in May but could be chilly, sunbathing weather most of the time.

I frequently go to Turkey in May. Weather is usually great. Definitely sunbathing weather and although the pools are cold the weather is usually warm enough to sun dry rather than having to towel off. I usually go to Hisaronu/Olu Deniz. Next to each other but one on the coast, the other a bus ride up the hill. It's usually a couple of degrees warmer on Olu especially in the evenings.

This time of year you will feel the benefit of a cardy at night.

There are often thunderstorms but they rarely last longer than an hour or so in the early afternoon, just about the right time for a leisurely lunch. I have never known it rain in the evening.

Do any of you have any hotel recommendations? We usually go 4/5* and like somewhere to walk to in the evening if possible.

Turkey is lovely in May, very warm in the day, maybe a little cool on the evenings. I always swim, it can be cold, not unbearable though. It is certainly sunbathing weather :)

I'm usually the other end of the scale and get B&B for a fiver a night. There are however some lovely more expensive hotels. Pine Valley and Ocean Blue are very popular and I think both have 'swim up' rooms where you can access the pool directly from your own balcony - no need to worry about sun beds then. (Ocean Blue definitely have them and I'm pretty sure Pine Valley does too,

Is there a nice place in Turkey for a first timer? Someone said Marmaris is a bit 18-30s which wouldn't suit us!

OP posts:
CottonSock · 17/04/2019 18:25

I went in June and it was 45 degrees. Never again!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 23/04/2019 13:13

I don't like Marmaris either, it's very Blackpool in the sun!
Have a look at Bitez on the Bodrum Peninsula, it's a small resort with a lovely beach and some nice accommodation and good restaurants, shops and a few bars.

pineapplepatty · 23/04/2019 17:26

We've narrowed it down to Hisaronu in Turkey, or Stallis in Crete.

Anyone been to either? And is B/B best or half board if we go to Turkey?

Thanks

In Turkey it's much better to go B&B or self catering

CottonSock · 25/04/2019 15:50

I've been to Crete in May (self catering) and it was lovely.

Hecateh · 25/04/2019 16:00

Hisaronu is brilliant and definitely B&B there are so many laces to eat and eating out is not expensive.
Most, if not all, the B&B places do lunches, so you can always get lunch there if you want.
Definitely would not go half board in Hisaronu, far too many fabulous restaurants.
One of the best being to book an evening trip up Mount Babadag and have an evening meal watching the sun go down.
You'll be seeing the paragliders from there all day so it's great to see where they take off from
