BA carseats on planes

Sorry if this has all been asked before but need to sort this quickly....BA have messed us about...booked a seat for a 19 month old as we can't bear the though of him being on our laps! customer services said that they supply britax seats but to book online then call back and confirm ...booked on line...called back to be told that seats only provided for long haul!! Oh ...and if he wants his own seat he has to be in a car seat...Arrrhhh....
We have a maxi cosi priori xp which is no good for a lap belt.
I think that the britax eclipse is the only other seat that looks any good (feeling cross at having to buy another seat when we already have two but there you go). Anyone have any experience advice of this?

How long is the flight? I would consider having himm on your lap for take off and landing, then sit him in the seat for rest of time (no car seat required). We did this with dd on a holiday flight, quite by chance there was a spare seat next to dh and myself so air crew suggested the above to make life easier. As you have booked him a seat on the plane I can't see them objecting.

Really? I thought it was the rule that if you had a seat you had to put a car seat in it? If not that would be great and would solve the problem! Thank you!

As I said air crew suggested it to us and dd was only sat in the seat for some of the time. We treated it as a bit more space if nothing else and it was free so how could we refuse.
Would still check with BA as you have booked a seat in his name, but you are complying with rules on take off & landing if he is on your lap with the additional seatbelt cos he is under 2 yrs old.
Musicians quite often book extra seats for instuments not able to be put in the hold.

Just checked BA website.

He still needs to be on your lap for take off and landing regardless of having his own booked seat cos he is under 2 yrs old.
But because he has his own booked seat, for him to occupy that seat during hte flight he must be in the car seat.

This is where I found it www.britishairways.com/travel/askbainter/public/en_gb?p_search_text=seating

I presume our flight was under booked and the crew were tryin gto be helpful ie. not officially occupying the seat

Olipop, I flew with ds then 13 months in his own seat with a maxi cosi priori xp long haul to South Africa. They strap in very well and the crew said that he is safer strapped into his car seat at take off and landing than on someone's lap. It is believed to be the safest option for them to travel. The only downside is that you have to carry the car seat onboard yourself.

Oh and I flew BA, The britax seats they refer to are the ones used on the bulkhead seat. No good if your ds has his own seat as they cannot be strapped into the lap belt. I did numerous enquiries about the issue before I flew and I can assure you, your seat will be good to go. BA only wanted confirmation that the car seat was produced and bought in England.
