Following much research I had decided to book a villa in Nerja this year.
I've just seenthis. Apparently there is major sewerage pollution on the beaches☹️

We stayed in Nerga last year and I was worried as well
Didn't see any sewage when we had drinks in the bars on the beach
However we didn't actually sit on the beach or swim in the sea but used the pool at the villa
The beach was very busy so guess many people aren't concerned!
Nerga is lovely thought

Nerja!!

We have been twice and loved it. Have never seen anything like this and have been out on pedalo’s both times.

I went last year for the first time and didn't notice any issues

I don't think you'd actually see anything but having read more about this I'm going elsewhere. They list the blue flag some years ago and apparently pump raw sewage into the sea. There have been several occasions when the beach has been closed. You won't find any locals in the sea there.

I think I would do the same if the beach was going to feature as part of my holiday
For us it was just drinks in the evening in the bars overlooking the beach and our children are much older and not keen on the beach anyway
Dd as a toddler used to refuse even to walk on the sand!!Hmm
Glad you were able to change your booking!

I went last June and is was absolutely disgusting!!
Really not a good place to go.

The sea was full of sewage (and you could see the white / yellow scum on top of the water), there was a mild smell of toilet on the beach and lifeguards advises no swimming.

The seafront town area is not particularly nice anyway. And a very steep hill to get up to where most of the apartments and hotels are. There are far nicer places to go in Spain & Spanish islands. Avoid!

Where would you recommend? Adult DC are coming with us.

If you haven't booked flights then I'd recommend hiring a villa in cala galdana, menorca, Spain. Beautiful clean sea, not a massive amount of restaurants but enough. Our adult children have come with us several times.

we went there last May and it was lovely. I had no idea pumping sewage into the sea still went on these days. My kids swam in the sea there a few times and had no issues, though if I'd have known about the sewage issue I wouldn't have let them in!!

With adult children, perhaps Puerto Pollensa in Northern Mallorca. Very relaxed town, lots of restaurants and a few wine bars, with a nice walkway called the Pine Walk for evening strolls. Has its own beaches and harbour but is also close to Formentor, idyllic beach with turquoise waters. You can take a boat from puerto pollensa.
