My dh asks me to ask you.
He is going on some strange sailing trip from there which is where the ship is berthed/docked/parked or whatever one is supposed to say.

Afaik, Skeppsbron is the road which runs throurgh Gamla Stan, which is the most touristy part of the city, and therefore the most overpriced.

There are a number of hotels on Gamla Stan but I would say anywhere in the centre is within easy walking distance of where I suspect your dh is sailing from.

I suppose here would be first choice

Thank you very much MrsMills.
Was hoping you would see this.
Hey,that looks nice.
I might change my mind and go with him.

Oh please do, especially if you haven't been before.

It may not be the most exciting place in the world but it is so lovely, especially in the summer. The Swedes are starting to get a little anxious actually that they are attracting too many tourists, they don't want the drawbacks of mass tourism, so are quite keen to continue the many myths that surround Sweden.

Ooh,it's always sounded interesting to me.I really fancy all that berry picking and jumping inot lakes under the midnight sun.Had a taste of it living in Russia.

I know it's not the same but my parents have just returned from Norway raving about it and particularly lack of oiks.

Try the Scandic chain, they are well priced. Look up Scandic on google for info, there are several dotted around Stockholm.
The Nordic Light Hotel has been recommended to me and isnt too far away from where he'll be. Closer to him and pricey are Grand Hotel, Berns and Radisson SAS, Grand is def very grand (and pricey), Berns meant to be fab and Radisson not v Swedish and prob bit too business.
Good info on hotels in Time Out Stockholm.

And moondog Stockholm is really gorgeous esp in the summer, def go if you can. Child friendly too if you need to take DCs.

My brother has a bike shop in Stockholm - I can ask him if you want (he also sails if that helps?)

moondog · 11/07/2007 22:17

Thank you all.
You are very kind.

Katy,that would be great!
All ideas gratefully received.he just needs somewhere to spend the night before his ship sails.

Bless him,soooooexcited!!

Katymac - dh is a cyclist, he is now considering racing again but needs a decent bike shop, could you tell me where your brothers shop is?

I'm presuming he's english, which would be a bonus for dh.

MrsMills · 12/07/2007 09:15

Katymac · 12/07/2007 11:41

Pannacotta · 12/07/2007 13:45

This is a small and very charming hotel which is inexpensive
www.tresmarum.se/
They speak English and you can mail them for availability.

moondog · 12/07/2007 18:43

Thanks again all.
Dh sends his grateful thanks and says that after 'considerable research' he has booked nordic Sea hotel.
I wonder if the fact that it has an ice bar had any bearing on that one?

Passed on your link too Mrs Mills.

Gah,this is becoming quite a jaunt from original purpose of functional stopover.Ah well, am planning my own child free and dh free getaway in October.

It's a lovely place to visit

MrsMills · 13/07/2007 09:04

I've stayed at the Nordic Sea, (which is right next to Central Station), if he wants to go to the ice bar, he should book when he arrives as there tends to be waiting lists, especially on a weekend.

And tell him to look out for the most ugly looking fish in the lobby tank! Not for the faint hearted.

moondog · 15/07/2007 16:32

Thanks MrsMills!
He has booked now!
Also going to keep an eye out for the fish.
