Infant on own seat - easyJet

Hello, I'm hoping some of you might have experienced this before.

I've booked a seat for my 15m old DD on all our next flights (all EasyJet). I called them to know how to book a seat for an infant and they advised to book a seat as a child (2-15) and then to call back and advise the seat was going to be used by an infant. It means I can't check in online but that's fine.

I read on their website that a car seat would be needed for her during take off and landing so I just assumed she could sit by herself during the flight and could be on my lap during take off and landing. I also read of the alternative of the CARES harness.

However when I contacted their customer service via online chat, they told me it is a mandatory requirement to bring a car seat when a infant has been booked as a child? They say they would check this at the airport but I would then have the option of checking it in - which makes absolutely no sense to me!

Anyone travelled on easyJet with a toddler under 2 and was fine without a car seat?

TIA

For take off and landing they will be on your lap. Hopefully someone can help about the car seat but on other airlines we purchased the extra seat to give us space and didn’t take a car seat at all even to check in.

Hi, I travelled regularly when my DD was tiny - up to the age of 2, she just sat on my lap, after that she went into an adult seat. So I have no experience of her having her own seat before she was 2 (as I knew no way she would sit on her own anyway, and to fork out full adult price for a little one seemed a bit decadent - but that's of course depending on how long your flight is).

Thank you, that's reassuring

So the infant fee with EasyJet was increased to £25 each way last November and as EasyJet charge a bit less for children, it was more economical (or roughly same price) to book an extra seat.

Her seat on our 2hr flight next week only cost me £12! There's no way my daughter would stay on my lap for that long without having a complete meltdown!

I booked a seat for 20m old DS on easyjet. We took a CARES harness but it was a waste of time. You have to sit in the back row as the harness blocks the tray of the seat behind and the child has to go in the window seat. DS sat in my lap for seatbelt times and was happy in his own seat the rest of the time. Well worth it IMO, he's 98th percentile and it was a 4 hour flight.

Thanks.

So in the end, our trip was fine. Nobody asked for us to have a car seat or anything.
It was however a bit of a pain checking in at Luton airport as no one knew how to deal with the infant on a seat situation so I ended up being given 3 boarding passes!

On the way back from Madrid it was much much easier although they did call me to the boarding desk to check my ID - bit random.

And although it was a bit of a pain not being able to check in online etc, it was so much worth it to get the extra seat on the plane!

Which is good as I have another 4 flights booked with a seat for my infant child this year

I'm glad it went well :) we have a flight in May with DS on our laps but it's a very short internal UK flight.
I've found easyjet to be pretty good for flying with an infant, we fly at least twice a month on different airlines and they've been one of the better ones.

I've just had a full blown panic about packing a car seat even though we're renting one the other end!
You've calmed me down now though! Thank you!
