Hotels in Rome

Can anyone recommend any cheap but nice hotels in the centre of Rome. For a pensioner and a teenager so the more central the better!! On a budget though!! Just B&B or room only. An apartment would be fine too. Twin beds if possible.
Also if anyone knows the best and cheapest way from Ciampiano to city centre any advice would be gratefully received!

TIA.

I think the cheapest way from the airport will be the bus, I think it's called Terravision or something like that.

I don't know how you catch it from the airport, as Rome was our last stop in Italy. I know coming back, I just went to the train station and got a ticket from the Tobacconist - it was maybe 4 or 5 euros.

Although looking at this, it seems a bus and train work out cheaper

We are staying at the Vatican Relais Rome. It is in the Vatican area though so may not be central enough for you.

Thanks

R.e. trvale from ciampino...You can get a public bus from outside the airport. It then stops at a metro station and you can us same ticket to get you into central Rome. Buses are about every 20 mins. There is lots of information out there that is a bit out of date as the buses have only run frequently for about the last 12 months or so. There are ticket machines for public transport on you right before you walk out of the terminal. I think ticket is about £2 ISH per person for a 90 minute ticket.
Attached is photo at the bus stop with the buses you need on it. Hope it makes sense

Photo didn't work! We caught the 520... Waited 10 mins or so. Got out at cinecitta metro station after a 15 minutes journey. Then got onto metro and into central rome. Very straight forward and cheaper than the terravisoon and similar which had massive queues. Bus wasn't crowded. ( Travelling with 4 children in Feb half term )

We stayed at the Hotel Colosseo, which was very reasonable and literally 100 yards from the colosseum, we could see it from our window 😊 there is also a metro station there. The rooms were clean, staff brilliant and breakfast is served in your room.

Thank you! Now they want an apartment as they both snore... They want a central location but budget is tight!!! Oh the joys of booking a trip for the old and the young....

Nope!!! We're back to hotels!! Can't trust Air bnb apparently and there are no reception staff... budget hotel (request is that it overlooks coliseum but there's no way they'll get that!!)!! Getting twin beds as a guarantee that seems to be the problem.
Please help!! Nice twin bedroom in Rome city centre. I'm not even going!!!

We got a taxi from airport - €48 fixed price. Easy peasy.

FuckyNel · 21/03/2019 23:25

Why can’t you trust Airbnb? I’ve been there 3 times and used them each time

jocktamsonsbairn · 21/03/2019 23:43

I trust Air bnb but my ddad is 75 and doesn't trust the internet let alone Airbnb!!! He's wary of being scammed. He did go travelling the world when he was young (pre internet) though so I think it's the internet that worries him more.

Teenager has no clue and has chosen places the bloody Queen would love!i have to please both of them on a budget!

The hotel I recommended offers twin beds. We requested a room with them for me and my eldest son.
Otherwise places like the Novotel usually can.

mama1980 · 22/03/2019 08:15

Also if they are into history/exploring the domus aurea is right by the colosseum , you have to book in advance but it is newly opened (so not many people have heard of it) and incredible.

jocktamsonsbairn · 22/03/2019 08:39

Thanks ma. They are very into history so will let them know. I did look at the hotel you recommended but it was way over budget for the dates.

We found booking.com had far the most choice. Hotels and apartments. Some are very cheap although probably not in the area you want.

HaventGotAllDay · 22/03/2019 09:37

Until the end of today the Holiday Inn group have 30% off in many places. I've just booked 3 nights in Brussels in late August for less than you'd normally pay for a mediocre b&b. Worth having a look.

fedup2017 · 22/03/2019 14:16

We stayed on principessa Trevi- on booking .com
(Not really cheap) but very very central. About 10m from the front door to Trevi fountain. The apartment is on the top floor so many steps involved ( although there is a lift).
