WE went to Lanzarote in Nov - very nice weather, not that exciting destination apart from the beach. But Canaries should be ok from the weather pov.

Last half term went to Greece, it was great - we were v lucky with the weather though, sept had been rainy and foul.
I think Turkey sounds like the best bet for your tastes

But book it now, half term is tricky (unless she is at one of those schools that has 2 weeks in october). We hardly had any choice of destination and still had to miss a day of school (but then we were insisting on flying from a little known provincial airport...)

Shoshable · 10/07/2007 16:34

We've been both to SA and Cyprus in the October Half Term SA was a long way and tiring journey (actually went for 12 days as inset days were tagged onto the half term plus weekends) Cyprus was great tho.

Kewcumber · 10/07/2007 16:37

but SA is overnight flight in both directions and no jet lag

iota · 10/07/2007 16:42

we went to Florida last October half term - if you object to Disney there is plenty of other things to see and do, including very nice beaches

MrsSpoon · 10/07/2007 16:43

We almost always go on holiday in October (particularly since being tied to School hols) and have had lovely weather in Zante, Rhodes, Majorca, Fuerteventura and the La Manga area of Spain. Also been to Portugal in November but it was slightly chilly, although not too unpleasant, but would imagine in October it would still be nice.

I think the worst thing about October is that you need to have clothing for all eventualities.

CountessDracula · 10/07/2007 20:01

oh yes
what a horrible thought!

Kewcumber, its ok SA overnight, if you can sleep on a plane, DH, DGD both slept all the way, me, not a wink! I was knackered time we got to Jo'burg, and then another two hours drive to Witbank! Still it was great and was seeing family.

katelyle · 11/07/2007 06:30

Lanzarote. LOVE Lanzarote!

batey · 11/07/2007 06:39

We have done Portugal in Oct, it was lovely beach weather.

katelyle · 11/07/2007 06:45

And we can reccommend a fab hotel in Lanzarote if you like!

Have had great weather in Devon and this is where we're going this time but it may pour of course. If you like the west country there's a place called The Mill in Tuckenhay whgich is self catering but has some communal stuff including a games room and an indoor pool - haven't stayed there but stayed in the village and it looks nice.

If you want sun, not too far and no jet lag we went to Cape Verde recently - the island they push is Sal - against my wishes I stayed in an all inclusive (run by Riu or Rui can't remember which) and much to my surprise had a fab time - big enough to do your own thing, close to town so can escape and go somewhere else to eat as all inclusive food gets a bit repetitive. There isn't much to do but if you want to relax and have some sun then its perfect. Staff were really nice and there's on tap drinks and snacks to keep small people happy. It is a bit windy sometimes (great if you like to surf, sail or windsurf) but some people find this spoils it for them - depends on what you are looking for really.

sandyballs · 11/07/2007 15:13

Gran Canaria? Puerto Rico is very nice, and guaranteed hot.

CountessDracula · 11/07/2007 16:59

canaries don't really appeal
it all looks either rather crowded or rather dull in middle of nowhere stuff

Does anyone know someone that is not
busy resort my idea of hell

a quietish village with nice beach would be fine

eleusis · 11/07/2007 17:12

Oh bloody Hell, not another one. Did you sort out the September one, then?

eleusis · 11/07/2007 17:19

Oh, you aren't going anywhere in Sept. So you put us all through that thread for nothing.

We are going away inSept for a mid week (Sun- Friday night which I personally whould call "all week" but anyway) break in Germany. We are leaving the kiddies with the nanny.

CountessDracula · 11/07/2007 17:21

yy but I didn't know then that dd didn't start blimming school til 17th Sept

Tunisia? Weather is nice still, and even in resorts most other guests are French so feel somehow not like a package. Hotels in Gammarth are good - only 40 minutes from airport and near enough to Carthage/Tunis/Sidi to do sightseeing stuff

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 17:28

they used to let you take dogs here and its lovely plenty to do. i think if you are worried about weather tbh staying in England is going to have the most things to do despite weather iykwim

Fimbo · 11/07/2007 17:28

I am currently trying to book Menorca for October 2008 half-term and it has been very trying to say the least. Best get something booked pronto.

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 17:29

and I personally think menorca is mixed weather in october, no offence fimbo

Fimbo · 11/07/2007 17:30

None taken, Fio

foxinsocks · 11/07/2007 17:35

everyone round here seems to go to Tenerife/Majorca/Menorca at that time if you want to avoid those

we rarely go away in that week tbh - it's normally around Halloween. Lots of parties and roaming the streets at night.

SA would be fab then but it's quite a long flight for only a week.

bambi06 · 11/07/2007 17:47

eilat in israel is hot all year round and beautiful..
