We are going to be near Stratford for the weekend with 2 dc aged 8 and 11. I’m thinking of going to Mary Arden’s farm and it seems to make sense to buy the ticket that also allows you into 4 other Shakespeare sites - Anne Hathaways cottage, Shakespeare’s Birthplace etc. We’d probably only do one of them though as I think the dc will get bored! Does anyone have any recommendations as to which one to visit?

Any other recommendations of things to do in the area gratefully received!

Shakespeare's birthplace is the most museum like iirc. The theatre is worth a visit, even just to browse in the shop. There's the butterfly farm. There used to be a teddy bear museum but not sure if it's still there. Warwick castle and the car museum at Gaydon. If you want places to eat in Stratford The Garrick is nice or there's a barge near the theatre that sells baguettes etc.

The RSC in Stratford have plenty do do this Easter break!

A range of workshops and activities from theatre skills to storytelling. Wednesday 10 - Friday 26 April 2019

All Easter you can pick up a free Activity Trail to discover hidden gems around the building, explore our theatres on a Tour, go to the top of the Tower for views of Shakespeare's home town, and dress up in costumes from our new dressing up cabinet. Just ask a member of staff for a free trail or to find out more.

THE PLAY'S THE THING
Kids go free to our award winning family exhibition The Play's The Thing during Warwickshire school holidays. Up to four children can go free with every full price adult ticket purchased.

WORKSHOPS
Alongside our drop in activities, exhibitions and events, you can take part in workshops, using approaches straight from our rehearsal rooms. These are broken down into three age ranges:

Introduce:
For ages 4 – 8 and their families/carers
Introduce the love of theatre and Shakespeare to your family with our series of fun and active taster workshops.

Discover
For ages 8 – 12 and their families/carers
Discover how our actors work in the rehearsal room to make theatre whilst learning more about Shakespeare’s plays. We also run full-day workshops within this age group for young people to attend without their parent/carers.

Explore
For ages 13 - 17
These sessions will give a greater insight into the work of the RSC and how we create theatre and bring Shakespeare to life. These workshops are for young people to attend without their parents/carers

The Mechanical Art and Design Museum is great for an 8 and 11 year old. Lots of interesting and interactive exhibits. It’s quite small so you would probably only be there for about an hour which suited the attention span of mine DCs!

For food and drink I also recommend:

  • The 1940s themed tearoom Fourteas for the best cup of tea in Stratford and nice cakes
  • The rooftop restaurant at the RSC for the view of the town and the river
  • The kitty cafe Shakespaws for animal lovers.
