Hi. I’m giving up on summer holidays. Looking out the window I have concluded now is the time! So if I want to book for next be year is the canaries the answer? Anyone know a resort where you can get a room for a family (6&2), with interesting pools (eg lazy river) and good food? The holy grail of family holidays...

The Lopesan Baobab is the only one in the canaries that I know has a lazy river.
In February, I’d be looking at going to Morocco instead because the average day time temperature in the canaries is about 20 and it’s quite chilly in the evenings. There are flights from most UK airports to Marrakech, and the flight time from London is less than 4 hours. If you’re after excellent pools and all the family friendly facilities, look at Aqua Fun Marrakech. It’s only 20 minutes from the airport, seven children’s pools, a crazy river, two heated indoor pools (one of which is for children), children’s buffet, playground, cots and high chairs. It has lovely views of the Atlas Mountains and a shuttle into the city centre.

Oh gosh I’ve just googled and there’s a spate of murders of tourists over there. Think it’s the canaries then

The Lopesan does look really good actually, have you tried the food?

It doesn't have a lazy river, but the Be Live hotel/resort in Tenerife was amazing when we went in March a few years ago. It's in / near Los Gigantes. Five pools iirc, loads of outdoor courts, equipment etc, an indoor games arcade with bowling alley, a kids' club that was actually really good .... we had a family suite which was a double bedroom and a lounge with double sofa bed. The kids slept in the bedroom and DH and I had the lounge, which was fine. The food was gorgeous!

I think there is a Be Live resort (or two) on all of the Canary Islands.

The Lopesan Baobab is amazing. The food is fine, better than most hotel buffet standards and the fresh meat and fish they do in the evenings is always good.
We are going back in June for the third time Smile
If you do book, email and request a room overlooking the dunes and lazy river. As a family they once put us at the other end overlooking the kids pool and it was so loud and not nice views.

We went to tenerife in Feb and the weather was amazing! Much warmer than expected. Can't think of a complex with those pools, but remember that the best water park in the world is there!

HotpotLawyer · 16/03/2019 23:08

The weather in Feb in tne Canaries isn’t guaranteed. We had 4 days out of 7 in pouring rain.

Hollowvictory · 17/03/2019 09:30

You'd need a heated pool in February otherwise its v cold in the water!

The Lanzarote Park in Playa Blanca is great for families and the food was suprisingly good. It’s also in a great location and an easy walk into the town.

We have just booked a last minute holiday to Cape Verde. Average temp in March is 25 but it can go higher. We have booked into the Melia Dunas resort - obviously can’t report back yet but it seems to be family orientated with lots of restaurants and pools!

Otherpeoplesteens · 19/03/2019 16:41

We spent a week at the Melia Dunas in Cape Verde in February. Although DD was only 16 months we loved it and would recommend it to anyone. There were plenty of families with children the same age as yours, OP, and they all seemed to like it. Good mix of Europeans and Brits.

The water slides and children's play areas are at the Sol Dunas hotel next door - a five/ten minute walk depending on where you set out from.

"Good food" depends on your interpretation. We loved it and ate in the buffet all the time, but quite a lot of TripAdvisor reviews complain about lack of choice.
