Driving in Switzerland after brexit

Hi. Fairly complicated situation I hope you can help me with.... I will be driving in Switzerland in April this year (I’m British). The car I’ll be driving belongs to someone who lives in Switzerland and is insured under normal Swiss insurance (which means I’ll be driving under their insurance, which is how it works in Switzerland with a letter stating his permission).
Will I also need a green card from my insurance company?
Thank you

I’m 95% sure the green card is for the car not the driver but you should double check that!

Agree with above, green card is covering your car not ability on someone else's. International driving permit is another thing with everything up in the air as it's stands however

I've tried looking on a few of our information sites op, but nothing specific to your example. You could try searching deeper on www.ch.ch

But I think the best thing is for your Swiss friends to call their insurers and check for you.

If we crash out with a no deal you will need an international driving license.

But I would ask your Swiss friend to double-check with the insurance about a driver not from an EU/EEC country. Some have different requirements for different countries.

Thank you all for your help! I have an international drivers license just in case. My insurance is up for renewal just before we go, so green card is trickier to get!

You won't need a green card as you are driving on their insurance but you may need an international drivers permit which you buy at the post office I think

Switzerland isn't part of EU so unless they have different rules for EU / non EU foreign drivers, Brexit shouldn't impact this situation.
