Has anyone been to Disney during the Christmas holidays or December?

We have never been to Disney but I think I would quite like the Christmas shows etc but I know the weather is unpredictable but would bad weather ruin it? we are thinking of going with a 5 and 7 year old.

Also grateful for any travel tips , we would be travelling from Cardiff and we were trying to find cheaper hotel but preferably Disney or Self Catering

TIA

Hiya I have been over Christmas/winter several times. I've always quite enjoyed it as it's not always busy and it's nice to not get too hot. It really does get cold so it's worth having big costs for you all. It is also very pretty! The fountains were frozen and it was lovely.

We usually stay in Cheyenne which is reasonably priced (for Disney) or in the sequoia lodge.

We went inbetween Christmas and New Year and it was FREEZING!! We took our then 5 year old and she just didn't want to be outside even though she was all wrapped up, we took a buggy and a big blanket but she was just too cold. I wouldn't reccomend it.

Silly question as I have never done Disney but is it all outside or are there lots of indoor parts ?

It's very very cold (went in Feb) restaurants can be very expensive at xmas, book them in advance

You are only ever indoors for a short while at a time. The rides are outside, although some involve going inside for a couple mins, and the parades. There, are some shows that are indoors. You need to wrap up really well, full on ski gloves etc. No wellies kids feet will freeze get proper boots.

I'd stay in the hotel nearest the park that you can afford so you can nip back for a warm up.

Head to Main Street USA and explore the Liberty and Discovery Arcades because they’re all interlinked you don’t need to go outside to get to the next one. Or jump on the railway. Whilst not fully covered (so long as you’re not the one sat by the door), it’s a good way to see the park in the drizzle. Even better if you have a take-away coffee or tea with you! Some of the best rides across the lands and parks are dark rides or indoor rides e.g Small World, Peter Pan, Phantom Manor. Walt Disney Studios has more indoor attractions which makes it the best park to go to for shelter. Armageddon, Studio Tram Tour, Crush’s coaster, Tower of terror, Ratatouille and Rock n’ Rollercoaster are all under cover. Also it’s smaller, so the rides and attractions are closer together and you won’t get as wet walking between them.
A lot of the rides have under cover queue lines too; Snow White, Pinocchio, small world, Pirates, Phantom Manor, thunder mountain (although the ride is outside, hopefully the rain would have stopped by the time you get to the front of the queue). Closures only usually happen in heavy snow, severe storms or if there is a risk of lightning.

It's mostly outside and not much indoors really.

OP if you can look into annual passes do. Go at least twice.
Xmas is nice , so is may

Yes - strangely it was always much colder than I’m the uk at the time, despite Paris being much further south than our home city. However it’s usually bitterly cold but dry and bright so as long as you’re prepared it’s ok. Christmas season is my absolute favourite, beautiful decorations and great atmosphere.

jocktamsonsbairn · 17/03/2019 01:15

We did Christmas at DLZp several
Times. I bought second hand saltpetre and ski jackets off eBay for dc so we were out in all weathers!!
We stayed in the Newport bay as had got a deal and it was good. Has an indoor pool. If you are prepared for the weather then you'll be fine!

Thermal vest and leggings under clothes, decent coats, boots & gloves and you’re good to go

notangelinajolie · 17/03/2019 01:58

We went the week before Christmas and yes, it's magical and they make it snow but omg .... it felt like we were in the coldest place on earth. I have never EVER felt cold like it. Take thermals, thick socks, hats and gloves (mittens are warmer).
