Thinking of taking DD for her16th to Barcelona, but I've never been. She wants to be city centre and most places I've found are quite far out! It's either here or Amsterdam but as I've been there lots I'm kinda hopi g she'll go for Barcelona!
So... where to stay, best way to get around, what to do/see etc. She's not interested in history though I am!! She would probably prefer a trip to a Sephora to the Sagrada Familia but I would prefer the latter!

Lucky you! We lived 5 years in Barcelona and still miss it so dearly!!!
Look for Airbnb in the Exaimple district, so you be right in the middle between the Old city, Gracia and very close to all the shops for your DD.

Bring a swimsuit because we use to go to the beach till late October.

You can see and enjoy historic buildings just by walking in the street!

I need to go to work now (i am in Australia) but will come back later. You must must must pick Barcelona! Leave Amsterdam for April and go to see the tulips field.

I got back today. My favourite place.

I tend to stay in the Exiample District near Placa Catalunya and Rambla Catalunya. It's central and feels safer than the Barri Gothic or old bit.

The most amazing bits IMO are
the Modernista buildings - Casa Batllo and Mila with incredible chimneys and rooftops, Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell (book all in advance). You can get a cable car from the Port to Montjuic for the castle and Joan Miro foundation. The Picasso Museum is really interesting too.

There is also a beach if you fancy a bit of R and R and Font Magica dancing fountains at night.

This is where we stayed this time. Very convenient for everything.

If you are on a tight budget there is a Travelodge which is near the beach and only a few stops on the metro from the centre. The area surrounding it has some nice pavement cafes and restaurants which I assume will still be open in Oct but you would probably need to double check. In the centre there are some lovely streets which run adjacent to Las Ramblas (near the cathedral, might be called Gothic area?) which have shops that a teen would love, clothes, make up, souvenirs etc.

What is your budget? I have found a hotel that seems to be relatively central for about euro 513 for 3 nights. October half term. There were cheaper options.

Aquarium is meant to be good.

jocktamsonsbairn · 14/03/2019 22:25

I will def check out the trace lodge thanks!! I'm on potentially a mega cheap budget as DS is waiting fir uni offers and if he is staying away from home then my budget is going to be seriously depleted!
She's not interested in the aquarium or football!! Typical teenage girl!

Don't use AirBnB. Barcelona has taken a battering for that. Stay in an hotel.

It was the Poublenou travelodge that I was referring to, I just checked. There is also a holiday inn express in the area but the travelodge is closer to the beach. It’s not walking distance from the centre but very near on the easy and cheap metro and a nice area. I’d like to go again soon Smile
