Where to take daughter on her first holiday abroad, to get her used to flying?

DD is 11 years old and has autism. We’ve never taken her on a plane yet but want to try somewhere in Europe for a city break, possibly in October half term. Can anyone suggest places that will be a shortish flight and somewhere nice to explore once there. Not bothered about a beach / hot weather. She likes sightseeing/ history/ animals.
Thanks.

My first thought was Paris because it's so close. Also I've never been but Amsterdam is close and looks beautiful x

The plus point of a UK destination is that if for some reason it becomes too difficult to use the airport there are other easy ways to get to the destination.

I would be more concerned about her coping with the location than the flight. Busy cities are probably not going to be ideal. I would go regional in the uk

Definitely Edinburgh or Amsterdam. Both are full of charm and history, have zoos, beautiful parks, cafe culture etc. Try and stay centrally so that you can easily walk back to your hotel to chill if she gets tired or overwhelmed.

What part of the UK do you live in? If you're in the South try to fly from Gatwick. They have a hidden disabilities lanyard you can get for your dd(no experience of using it yet so don't know how useful it is), the special assistance lounge is nice and quiet and they have an autism friendly visual guide to going through the airport.
