There are supermarkets in Spain. You could try buying food there.

As above, unless you have any *specific dietary requirements you can buy food at your destination.

(*And if you do, chances are you'll be able to get the foods you need there.)

Where are you staying?

Tomtontom · 09/03/2019 16:17

Supermarkets in Spain are no more expensive than here, as long as you go to the actual supermarket and not a tourist shop.

What foods are you thinking of taking with you?

OrchidInTheSun · 09/03/2019 16:21

You can take sauces in your hold luggage but be aware of pressure changes in bottles so make sure they're well wrapped.

I take specific snacks for my autistic child, cereal which can be quite hard to come by, spices and herbs. And teabags! You can get everything else there.

As kingfisherblue said THERE ARE SUPERMARKETS IN SPAIN and SHOCK, HORROR they even sell recognisable UK foodstuffs, a number of foods are cheaper than in the UK.

You cannot take any liquids over 100ml in hand luggage. Liquids must be placed in a small, clear, re-sealable, plastic bag approx 20cm x 20cm and it has to be checked through separately in Security. One bag allowed per person.

There are restrictions on foodstuffs you can carry in hold luggage too, suggest you look into this.

kingfisherblue33 · 09/03/2019 19:32

I’d check with your airline re restrictions on what food you can take. But honestly, Spanish supermarkets are pretty similar to
Uk ones for price, and you can buy pasta, rice, noodles, pizzas, meat to barbie, baguettes , etc etc there.

What specific foods were you thinking of taking? Is there a food you can’t live without for a week?

It’s also fun shopping with the dc in an unfamiliar supermarket. The dc can practise their Spanish too!

Hi thanks to all of you for your suggestions , very helpful Syl

Hi Police 123,
We find Spanish supermarkets much cheaper than those at home. Lidl and Aldi are in most resorts and are nicer than at home. Markets can also be great value and have gorgeous produce. Fair play to you bringing 6 kids on holidays, hope you have a ball!

FusionChefGeoff · 09/03/2019 22:00

Depending on what time you are due to arrive, I'd put some easy food for that meal in your cases - eg packets of chicken rice for lunch / dinner or brioche / cereal bars.

Also focus on anything that DC are fussy about and I take store staples eg stock cubes / tbags / sugar.

For everything else just head to a local supermarket or as pp said a market.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 11/03/2019 13:43

Just go to the supermarket when you get there. They are very similar to the ones here and you will get everything you need there. As mentioned above you will normally find Lidl and Aldi too.

BrexitBirgit · 11/03/2019 13:58

Beware of 'sauces' and also jars of pastes in hand luggage. I completely forgot and had a jar of Nutella confiscated.

Hoppinggreen · 11/03/2019 14:05

Just shop at Aldi or Lidl when you get there, cheaper than buying it here and easier than taking it on a plane.
We go 4 or 5 times a year and apart from when DD was having some food issues I never took any food with us. Part of the holiday fun is trying new things and it’s easy to do that even on a budget

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 11/03/2019 14:08

Drive to Spain!! We took weeks and weeks of food for many many dc - stored in our caravan!!
Caravan checked for stowaways en route. Poor bloke opened a cupboard......
Not a grand plan!!
Shock

WinterHeatWave · 11/03/2019 14:11

Anything that will class as a liquid will not be allowed in hand luggage on a plane. Since I've seen Jam removed, I'd sauced (I'm assuming you mean ketchup etc) risk being removed.
Personally, I'd also struggle to get clothes, shoes, towels and many jars or bottles in under the weight limit.

Suggest dishwasher tablets, clothes washing powder, things like that which are expensive, but you wont use a full packet of while you are there.

reluctantbrit · 12/03/2019 16:24

The only thing I take with me are teabags.

Honestly, the supermarkets are great, also don't forget you have lots of markets for fresh fruit and veg.

When we had a late flight I asked the caretaker to get us a bottle of milk, butter, honey, jam and some packed bread for the next breakfast.
