Whats actually in your flight bag for a 4 hour flight? Travelling with 1 tween with SN and one teen. Do you actually take a change of clothes and travel pillow etc

Mine is normally tablet, phone, snacks, etc. Don't take change of clothes or travel pillow

Pinkyyy · 08/03/2019 22:36

I wouldn't take clothes or a pillow for 4 hours. I usually take earphones, lip balm, snacks, phone charger and eye mask.

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 22:36

Battery packs too

GreenEggsHamandChips · 08/03/2019 22:41

Thank you. Makes much more sense. Have done a couple of 1 hour flights with them but not a 4 hour flight. If dont take pillows etc i can get mine and the tweens stuff down to one backpack or one and a bag for DS. Would make live easier.

What food do people normally pack?

I just take my handbag. The only extra thing to add is my kindle. I don’t understand why people need so much stuff!

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 22:44

We normally take things like crisps, Pringles and bags of sweets e.g. starburst, skittles. Watch out for liquids though as you can't take containers over 100 mls

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 22:45

We tend to take a backpack each. The kids take tablets and Nintendo ds

Babysharkdoodoodoodo · 08/03/2019 22:47

I always take a blow up travel pillow and earplugs, basic toiletries and a change of undies. Spare t-shirt as well : lesson learned after BA lost my luggage for 24 hours.
Phone, iPad and kindle.
Maybe snacks as I'm not forking for manky plane food.

SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 08/03/2019 22:49

I have been stuck at the end of a flight with my luggage at a different location. After that I always made sure to have at least a change of underwear and basic toiletries, as well as the usual stuff.

MrsFriskers · 08/03/2019 22:51

I get to boarding gate early, to avoid my hand/carry on luggage being consigned to the hold - this is becoming a prob on all flights. Put what essential and valuable items you can in a squashy handbag,

GreenEggsHamandChips · 08/03/2019 23:06

Ds is wheelchair user so we sometimes take an entirely different route to the plane. havent had much control over when we make it onto the plane in thr past it could be (several) hours before it could be some time after . Which can be a bit awkward to say the least. Our bags dont always end up directly above our heads so it makes sense to have something thst can fit under the seat infront but theres a fair amount needing carrying. Ds just as likely drop yhe bag as carry it and DD might not be able too much owing to her Shoulders. So it might just be me. Carrying dinner powerpacks tablets medications etc.

Not taking all the peripheries would help a lot

Handluggage contains all valuable items, so money, keys, camera, phones, ipad, kindle, chargers. We are three (2 adults and DD, now 11) and we normally split everything between all of us. DD also has at least one cuddly toy with her, normal is 2-3 for her. She also has some pens and notepad with her.

Also some pain killers, nasal spray and anti-histamins for me and all other medince which is needed.

My normal handbag is in the hold luggage for use during the holiday.

I stopped carrying a change of clothes when DD was out of nappies/accidents.

What food do people normally pack?

I usually just take some cereal bars or similar (Kind bars etc), not usually organised enough to buy or make sandwiches, so just get a sandwich at the airport (before or after security) and something to drink once through security. Expensive but still a lot cheaper than food on the plane, Edinburgh airport has a WH Smith past security so you can get a meal deal (sandwich, drink, snack for about 4 or 5 pounds I think it is). Most UK airports will have a Boots or WH Smith or similar past security and a supermarket like M&S or Tesco before you go through as well as the usual Costa, Eat, Pret or similar.

No travel pillow or clothing change for short-haul (Ryanair you can take both your bags on board anyway with priority boarding so no risk of lost luggage).

My small ( under seat) bag has tablet, headphones, camera, travel toiletries, snacks/food and drink plus battery pack and cable for phone/tablet, passport, etc, sometimes a paperback book too.

glenthebattleostrich · 09/03/2019 12:14

My hand luggage has a change of clothes, change of underwear, swimsuit, book, tablet, painkillers for me and dd, toiletries and antibacterial wipes.

My handbag has phone with Kindle app, lip balm, antibacterial gel, small tube of moisturiser (I have eczema and the dry air in the cabin dries my skin out. We also take our own headphones as I hate ether idea of airplane ones. We pick up drinks and snacks at the airport.

DD has a bag with notepad, pens, a couple of little toys, a colouring book and her tablet. She's a pain in the arse to travel with, can't sit still for 5 minutes and needs constant entertainment otherwise she's a bloody irritation to other passengers. I adore her, I don't expect others too!
