Has anyone done one of these? Have never cruised before but want to get away over Christmas this year and avoid a long flight.

Hi @babypossum, I found 36 cruises that depart from the UK in December 2019. The experience you'll get willd epend on the following:
1 - The dates you're travelling
2 - The destination: some trips at that time of the year can be a little rough if you're crossing the Bay Of Biscay for example
3 - The amount you want to spend.
Different cruises / destinations have differernt facilities and age ranges. For example P&O, MSC and Royal Caribbean are family oriented and your 10 year old will have lots to do whilst you relax.
If you have some dates, it's easier to see what routes are available and what ships are on that route. :-)

Thank you, that's really helpful! I'll check those ones out.

The sea around the canaries at that time of year can be a tad tasty! Confused We don’t mind it and children seem to not be bothered by it either.

I would stick to a fly cruise: I wouldn’t waste time cruising down to the Canaries in that weather in those conditions.

We have done it twice and loved it: Canaries, Madeira and Morroco were all stops for us and varied from 16-22c with the odd dull day but mostly pleasant.

Depending on on how old your children are will dictate the ship. Look at a website like Cruise.co.uk or Iglu and see what itineraries are on offer and then check out the ships on Cruise Critic.

Personally NCL are my favourite followed by Marella as they both offer relaxed informal dining and are “fun”. P&O are a little too formal for me, but they are very popular with lots of people.

Thank you. We've now decided to go to the states!

I think that’s a good idea: I just realised you have a 10 year old and I think most of the ships I can think of that go to The canaries in winter are probably better suited to those with younger children!
