Bottle feeding abroad

Hi all, my wife and I have travelled to lanzarote with our 5 month old girl. She’s bottle fed.

Coming from Scotland we have great water, no issue or residue once boiled etc.

However, were reluctant to use the Spanish water out the tap for boiling.... so are likely going to buy bottled water to boil?

Is this safe? I’ve test boiled a bottle of Evian and it’s left a white dusty residue floating in the water - likely calcium. Is this safe to Mix with her aptamil??

Anyone got advice for us? Were kinda getting in a fankle over something we probs shouldn’t!!

Thanks

Bottled water is fine to boil, look for one with a low sodium content. It will be fine whatever it looks like :)

We used tap water and low sodium bottled water with Aptamil. You can also get Aptamil ready made milk in cartons.

Out of interest, why don't you want to use the tap water? I'll be going to Spain soon with 8 mo DD and will be using tapwater to make up her bottles unless I can find the 1l bottles of premade in which case I will probably just use that the whole time.

The tap water in Europe has a lot more minerals in than we are used to in the UK so it tastes different. It could also upset your baby's tummy if they are not used to it.

MeadowHay · 26/02/2019 08:40

Not sure I understand that - bottled water is different in composition to UK tap water, so unless you always make baby's bottles with the same brand of bottled water here, then the water they have abroad (i.e. the bottled water) will be just as different to the UK tap water that they're used to here...so could just as easily upset their stomach, by that logic Confused. Water in different areas of the UK is different in composition and taste too, do people make baby's bottles up with bottled water when they visit a different city/part of the UK? I am in the NW and took DD to NE when she was 12 weeks old and the water there was very different in taste, look etc from here but it never occurred to me to use bottled water to make her bottles up. In any event there was no need as obviously it was safe to drink and she was fine.

Get low sodium mineral water it usually has a picture of a baby on it somewhere to show it's ok

@MeadowHay DS used to drink anything, even formula made with cooled down boiled tap water if necessary. He was never really ill. But it is your choice as a parent.

@ Meadowhay
I used to live in Turkey when my dd was a baby. Nobody used the tap water there to drink as it had a very high mineral content. No bottled water either there or in the UK has such a high content, nor do any parts of the UK have tap water with such a high content. It is completely different to tap water in the UK. Many countries in Europe are the same.

It really doesn't taste nice either, it's a bit like swimming pool water. It is not unsafe but could upset a sensitive tummy in a young baby.

I only breastfed so I never made bottles but my dd would drink bottled water.

Obviously you can drink the tap water if you like and make your babies bottles with it, I would just advise you not to.
