Is the BA executive club worth it?

I'm going away soon and if I book a slight more expensive (£50) ticket that is in a better booking fare, then I will make 'Bronze level'.
I'll probably use BA again in the summer for a shorthaul and possibly another long haul, maybe another one next year with a few smaller trips. So I have the chance to start building points. I go premium/ business long haul usually.

Anyhow, shall I bother booking with BA a slightly more expensive ticket at a slightly better time just so I can get the Bronze level?

Bronze doesn’t offer a whole lot of benefits (no lounge access for instance) but if you usually pay for seat assignment I’d say it’s worth spending the extra £50 this time as bronze lets you pick seats for everyone in your party 7 days before departure for free. You also get to use the business class bag drop which is a nice time saver but I wouldn’t consider that having any monetary benefit and it has zero benefit if you’ll be travelling business class next time anyway. And you’ll collect more avios points but unless you’re planning a big trip and are confident you’ll be able to get a reward flight then I wouldn’t consider that worth the spend either. So in short, I’d do it only if it will save you money on seat selection for your next trip.

I would; and also try to get to silver, for lounge access, showers etc (you can use other lounges as well, as part of oneworld). But it's quite difficult to keep up with the number of points required, unless you regularly fly long haul, of lots short haul for work (for example).

It depends on what you want to get out of it really.

Hi @brutplonk, You only start getting real value when you get to Silver status on BA. You can then avoid queuing up for boarding, get to use the BA lounge (with all it's free drink, snacks, wifi and magazines). Getting points depends on how many times you fly, what seat category you use (some seats have higher point allocations than others, even in the same class) and once you reach a status, Blue, Silver, etc, you genrally get to hold on to it for a year. But as @puzzlingpuzzle says, it only starts to accumulate value as you use it more.
