Holiday with newborn after CSec?

Hi all!!!

Looking for a bit of advice, I am due to have an elective c-section for dd2 on/around 12th April. Travelling to Greece with dh, dd1 (26months) and dd2 (who will be about 6 weeks).

We booked the holiday before I found out I was expecting, a really close pair of friends are getting married in Kephalonia. We've booked a week in the same hotel the ceremony is taking place and there are about 60 people going, most with children.

As we're getting closer to the date I'm panicking whether this is going to be a good idea 6/7 weeks after having A CSec and also taking a new born on a plane (circulated air and all that).

I recovered really well after my last c/section and a lot of my friends have said it's really easy to take a new born away but I really don't think it's a great idea and I am a massive worrier!

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks all xxx

I took my baby to Turkey 8 weeks after my c-section and I was fine. Mine was emergency so I think it took me a little longer to recover than if it had been elective.

As long as you have no complications and your baby is fine there is no reason you shouldn't be able to go on your holiday. It really is easy to take a newborn away, much easier than at 26 months Wink

@SooticaTheWitchesCat

Thanks so much! Haha! Yeah I know dd2 is going to be the problem child she's obsessed with jumping into the water we're going to have to watch her like hawks xxx

It's hard to say. It's quite a long flight- i think the issue will be how you have recovered not the baby unless they end up having and health issues etc but bear in mind they won't have developed their immune system or had immunizations yet. What are the hospital/ health facilities like on the island should you or baby need them. I think I would be too anxious about this.
As it is already booked is there much you can do about it- e.g. could you get the money back anyway? If yes you need to decide if you can afford to loose it if you can't end up going. If no I would just wait and see but let your friends know it will be TBC until a few weeks before. Maybe don't tell the kids in case you can't go and they are disappointed.

Sorry just realised only 1 child age 26 months so issue of dissapointing DD1 not as relevant.

@Ooplesandbanoonoos yeah I am tne same I'm so anxious about it but dh is not a worrier. We have to make final decision by 1st March as that's when the rest of the balance needs to be paid. Should really find out about insurance and if I am too ill to fly if I'm covered!

I know that's what I said to dh about medical facilities as would hate to have a poorly new born or an infection on an island anyway!

Thanks for your advice xxx

It will all depend on getting a passport surely?

katelily2017 · 13/02/2019 09:35

@Murphypoint they have a one week and same day service so hoping that bit will be straightforward xx

Where are you staying? The hospital is in Argostoli.

The flight is around 3 and a quarter hours from Luton, may vary depending on where to fly from. I can tell you that as it is a small airport, they only deal with one flight at a time, so you can get your luggage quite quickly, we once made it from exiting the plane to exiting the airport in half an hour!

Even the villages have several supermarkets, and the Greeks all love babies so they will be very helpful, there is often a Dr available locally as well.

Do get the medical insurance in place quickly, because if at the six week check you are advised not to fly for any reason, you can claim.
