We are going in July (I know it will be hot!) for 17 nights. I have a broad plan but need a couple of recommendations for places please - one somewhere that's not a city, maybe mountains, countryside etc, the other a beach place that we could stay for 4 nights before flying from Narita. So far I'm thinking
1-5 Tokyo
5-7 Hiroshima
7-11 Kyoto/Osaka
11-17 2 nights in non-city location/4 nights beach
I'm not fixed on timings so can do in any order but do want to spend at least 5 nights in Tokyo.
Please recommend...

We went last summer, a big trip to celebrate the end of GCSEs for DD.

The bullet train travel passes are totally worth it.

Do not miss the Digital Art Museuem in Tokyo. Truly it was the highlight of our trip. We were totally blown away by it. Buy tickets before you go. They sell out fast. The tea house especially is totally trippy.

Mainly we used Air BnB, though if you do, be prepared to sleep on Tatami mats on the floor. I can recommend the one we used in Kyoto.

@slug yes the Team Lab digital art museum is amazing! We loved it.

Placemarking to read later, as I'm planning on taking my dc here for their 18th birthday (they're mad on Japan).

Also place marking - we’re going for 2 weeks in November with 11&7yr old D.C. (youngest will turn 8 while we’re there)

Place marking, for the trip I want to make -- next year perhaps.

Hi OP

Are you still going on your trip?

We are all set to fly out on the 4th April! Hoping everything is reopened by then! Trying to remain positive x

We went last summer and it was amazing. I'd go again in a heartbeat! Such gentle people and so lovely to be in such a calm, quiet atmosphere- even in the middle of Tokyo.

The DCs loved it and because it was so safe, we were very comfortable letting them go off and so their own thing.

Our itinerary was
Day 1-6 Tokyo
7 Hiroshima
8 Kurashiki
9-10 Himeji
11 Koyasan
12-15 Kyoto
16-17 Hayama

I hope you're able to go.
