Venice hotel/accommodation

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in Venice. Mid range price?

Keep reading horror reviews about bed bugs and a lot of the photos are putting me off but I think that might just be the style in Venice.

Would happily consider b&b or air bnb style accommodation!

This may or may not help you but when I went to Venice I decided I wanted to be comfortable and that was more important than being central.

We stayed in a suite in a 4* corporate hotel in Mestre for around half the price some of the central hotels were charging and it didn't bother me at all as the transport in and out was so easy.

The floods were really bad at the time and most of the budget accommodation said things like 'umbrellas and complimentary wellies available' I didn't want to worry about things like that or faffing around the tiny streets at night with luggage not knowing where we were going. It was great just having a few minutes walk from the station.

Just remembered it was called the Delfino. Looked hideous from outside. Gorgeous room and food and an excellent supermarket next door.

Hotel dei Dragommani had a great family suite with a shutter door to a small kids bedroom, and it was quiet but very central / close to S Marco. Almost exactly opposite on the Dorsoduro side of the canal is Hotel Messner - cheaper but also quiet and good location (right between the Salute and Guggenheim and with a traghetto stop almost in front). Have also stayed at the Lido and taken the vaporetto over but the hotels were depressing seaside dumps. Cheap tho'.
Didn't pester any of them for recommendations / restaurant bookings or use their restaurants - strictly somewhere to sleep and wash! Would definitely stick to that area if you don't know venice, and not Canareggio for eg.

I can really recommend Ai Mori d'Oriente hotel. Stayed several times, lovely staff, lovely location in the Jewish quarter totally non pretentious and good value.

I can second that!! We also stayed at Ai Mori d'Oriente and it was lovely. Only a short walk to all the tourist attractions but far enough to be tranquil. Some amazing restaurants just seconds away.

We stayed at the Antico Doge. Very centrally located and - provided you avoid a canal view - not too pricey. We paid for a canal view but didn't open the windows due to the nice air conditioning so didn't really get the extra bonus from it. They also recommended a nice restaurant that wasn't dreadfully expensive.

We stayed one time in Mestre, the Hotel Tritone (Best Western). Over the road from the train station and a five minute train ride into Venice. Being just outside Venice wasnt an issue and like mrsnec above our room was half the price of a Venice room but twice the size. On another visit we stayed in Venice itself at the hotel Belle Epoque - not a luxury hotel but ornate and clean in a great location a couple of minutes walk from the train station and a vaporetto stop and easily walkable from the bus station too if arriving by coach.

Hotel Ai Cavalieri di Venezia is absolutely beautiful. DH and I stayed there with our 4 month old baby (he's 3 now so it was a little while ago) and they could not have been more accommodating, even supplying the room with complimentary nappies, wipes, changing table, bottle warmer & cot! The hotel was stunning right in the heart of all the action. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We got engaged whilst we were there, DH proposed on a gondola ride, we had the best time ever. Enjoy OP!

Stays at Ai Mori d’Oriente for a few days prior to taking the Orient Express from Venice. It’s a lovely hotel.

We stayed here, Marco Polo's House.
We sat on the balcony morning and evening watching the world go by.

Don't be put off with the location, guidecca island. It's quieter and relaxed, ideal to escape the hustle and bustle and we used the regular waterbus stop right outside to get around Venice.
