We're doing a short break in Munich in Feb. Just 3 days. What are the things to see? And what are the best/most cost effective public transport tickets to buy?

Obletter Spielwaren is the city’s most famous toy store and spreads out over several levels at the Karlsplatz-Stachus central square.
Munich Zoo (Tierpark Hellabrunn) is one of Germany’s biggest. There’s the extra bonus of a petting zoo, pony and camel rides for children.
Munich’s church tower lookouts at the Frauenkirche or the Alte Peter have great views and the climb up the hundreds of wooden stairs might wear them out enough for you to catch your breath!
The Seehaus in the Englischer Garten is a lake where you can rent out paddle boats and go to some of the mini-islands. At the southern tip of the park on Eisbach River there is even a popular surf break created by an artificial wave. Surfers in wetsuits line the banks of the river waiting for their chance to catch a wave. My children were mesmerised!
The beer gardens are designed to be family friendly and many have playgrounds to keep the children happy while you are enjoying a drink. The Hirschgarten even has a petting zoo with little deer running around and the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) has an old-fashioned carousel.
The science and technology museum has hundreds of interactive displays and 'Children’s Kingdom'.
The Flugwerft Schleissheim has dozens of aircraft on show and children can get into a real cockpit to wiggle the landing flaps.
The central plaza of the pedestrian zone is called the Marienplatz. This is where to view the famousRathaus-Glockenspiel at the top of the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall). The clock has tiny knights that joust and mini jesters performing at 11 am, 12 and 5 pm. There is a dedicated toy museum in the tower of the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) on Marienplatz. There are thousands of old toys and special exhibits on Barbie, robots and teddy bears but exhibits are for looking, not touching, and younger children might get a bit edgy.
The Paleontological Museum Munich has a nice collection of dinosaur skeletons and exhibits if your children are into dinosaurs.
Another must-see while in Munich with kids is the Olympiapark which is now an activity complex complete with water sports, aquarium and a zip line. A giant tower called the Olympiaturm has amazing views of lower Bavaria all the way to the Alps. If your children are car obsessed, a short five-minute walk from the tower is BMW Welt. This is a combination of a museum, dealership, and shop dedicated to all things BMW. The hands-on exhibits are so creative
At the Bavaria Filmstadt (Bavaria Film Studios), children can take a ride on Falkor the dragon from The NeverEnding Story. There’s also a 4D cinema and a pretty impressive stunt show, which includes fistfights, fire, falls and diving. Guided tours of the studio sets are available in English.

You can get a three-day group ticket for the public transport - it is cheaper even for just two people than the corresponding single-person three-day-ticket, you will probably only need one for zones 1-4, although this will not cover the s-bahn from the airport - that is in zone 16(!) and costs €11 per adult one-way. There is an app called VKK which has an up-to-date journey planner (knew that at a certain time we couldn't make a journey that the map said we could, but told us what to do instead).

We loved Munich when we went for a weekend in September - bet it'll be a lot colder in February!!!

When I went with DS a few years ago we did a tour of the BMW car factory and the Allianz Arena, which were both great. We also had a swim in the Olympic pool (great for me as I am old enough to remember the Munich Olympics and Mark Sptiz.) There is also a tower there you can go up with great vies and the Olympic park is lovely for a walk around.

There is a beer garden in the centre (sorry can't remember the name), which was great. We were sat with some locals and they translated the menu for us and advised DS on what to eat as he wanted to try the local foods.

We spent 5 days there and had a great time, so much to see and do. You will really enjoy it.
