Why are BA flights so expensive?

I genuinely don’t get how they are so expensive in comparison to easyjet, ryanair etc. What extra service do they offer these days?

Economy Basic is pretty much the same as easyjet. For european breaks it makes no sense to me to pay £120 to go to Seville vs £60 with easyjet. I’d love to support BA, but it’s not worth it.

I’ve flown longhaul business with them, and prem econ. Both were a poor product compared to Virgin.

BA terms and conditions are changing. Loads of redundancies at Heathrow atm.
Lots of unhappy staff.

Flew long-haul BA to USA a couple of years ago. Actually found both United Airlines and Air Transat (Canada flights) to be better. Very cramped seats, poor in flight entertainment and bad food. Not prestigious in my mind anymore.

DH & I flew to Rome with BA last October. Had to go via LHR from MAN, fare was £150 each, booked in March (went up a lot nearer the date).

The only low cost airline to fly direct is jet2, their flight times weren’t great & their fares only slightly lower. Normally my first choice would be easyJet.

Our return trip was interesting, because the first leg was delayed by something mechanical & we missed our onward flight. There wasn’t another until the next day & they laid on a chauffeur to get us back to MAN where our car was parked. I don’t think we’d have got that with any of the low cost airlines! Grin

(And it is very nice to have an airbridge instead of steps, especially when it’s raining, which it was when we left Rome)

I flew long haul with BA and had a connecting flight on either side. It meant I wasn't having to spend 24 hours in between flights or having to split my journey into 4 or more flights. Once I looked at paying the extras with the budget airlines I was actually cheaper with BA anyway, I got to decide a little which airports I'd prefer to make my connections in, and I got to my destination a lot sooner with some pretty decent food and a few wines in me too.
