North London to Swansea

I don’t want to drive all the way as my back isn’t great but I also don’t like the thought of wasting time getting the train into London to go back out again.
So I’m considering driving to Reading (approx 1hr 5 mins) and then getting the train to Swansea (2hrs 30 mins).

Does this sound like a sensible, feasible idea to you?

There is a very good train service between Reading and Swansea - what would you do about car parking, could be expensive?

Good thinking cwtches123, I hadn’t thought about that. I’d be happy for a 15/20 minute walk from parking to station. Do you know the area? Would that be doable to then get free parking?

There are several car parks in Reading town centre and one at the station. All very expensive. You could probably Google the prices.

Thank you Br3.
Is there any free residential parking do you know, up to 20 minutes walk away?

Reading have a residents parking permit system so I think the idea of a space on a side road or even free residential parking may be scuppered. The other measure I could suggest if you did drive would be to book a parking space on someone's driveway for the duration through a site like Just Park.

Have a read of this re parking:- www.reading.gov.uk/towncentreparking

Have you looked at going on bus, National Express. Should be cheaper than train too

You could park at Winnersh or Lower Early train stations, pay and display.Get small train, to main Reading train station. Don't park at Sainsbury's, it has a time limit on their car park, probably 2 hours

Thank you for all the tips. I’m going to investigate now.
